Then, we find out all kinds of news surrounding the recalling of dozens of packages products in Quebec due to possible Salmonella contamination.
Today, we heard the news that the Great Little Harbour Seafood Company Ltd. is planning on recalling oysters which have been distributed and sold throughout Ontario, Nova Scotia, and other provinces as well, for possible Salmonella contamination.
They warn that if you have eaten this type of seafood and have gotten ill as a result, it's best to visit your doctor for a medical check-up.
Salmonella does not necessarily cause any odors or visible alterations to your food, so it's best to err on the side of caution.
That being said, Salmonella sounds a lot scarier than it actually is. And those most susceptible to complications from infection are young children, the elderly, and those with the already compromised immune system.
When healthy adults are infected with this bacteria, it usually causes mild to severe abdominal issues such as cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting, which tend to appear 12 to 72 hours after infection, and often go away within 4 - 7 days without treatment.
Although not life threatening, this type of stomach disturbance can often be so uncomfortable it will keep you in bed for a few days, so best to exercise some level of caution these days before you bite.
