Watching Porn May Be Putting Your Relationship At Risk

All couples should know this.

2017 was a tough year on all of us. For pretty much everyone, except for the porn industry. It's booming. And that's a generous understatement. According to Forbes, popular Montreal-based online porn aggregator Porn Hub averaged 81 million visitors daily.  That's a lot of visitors.

Fun Fact: there are more video votes on Porn Hub (120 million) then there were votes cast in the last U.S Presidential election. We are all getting our piece of adult entertainment, but the emotional and mental repercussions are not instantaneous nor easily apparent.

With regular porn use becoming common practice, many psychologists and academics interested are interested in how it can potentially affect different aspects of our lives.

A recent study released by The Journal Of Sex And Research sheds light on the relationships between porn use and divorce rate. The conclusion, not going to lie - is grim.

The longitudinal study gathered data on married couples between 2006 and 2014. Surveying a sample of 2,120 married adults the study found the overall chances of divorce DOUBLED for both men and women who started using porn after getting married.

Researchers also found that the relationship between porn use and divorce was much higher for younger people. uh oh. Half of the 20-year-olds who watched porn after the marriage ended up in divorce.

You're probably shaking your head right now thinking that you personally know a bunch of couples who dabble in adult entertainment themselves - and their relationships are just fine.

Well like most research, this study is correlational. In other words, these researchers aren't saying porn use is the one sole cause of divorce. There very well maybe a third factor pushing these young couples towards divorce.

That said, this study still shows a strong connection and this suggests that porn use has at least some direct negative impact on relationship satisfaction.
