When it comes to methods of payment, the STM is a little behind.
Still to this day, if you want to use the bus or metro, and you don't have an OPUS card or tickets, your only option is cash.
Even the STL offers the option to get on the bus using your credit card, so why wouldn't the STM be able to provide the same service?
Well there is some good news, the STM is currently looking to implement new payment methods for the bus and metro. Last year the tried to create a way to pay with your phone, but that was basically just a virtual OPUS card and it only worked on Android phones.
But last month, they started exploring new modes of payment. They asked companies to offer innovative ticketing solutions so you could pay to get on the bus or metro with your phone or credit card.
So far, no single project has been selected, but at least the STM are finally looking into more modern payment methods.
