An online marketplace for collector's items has put together a list of Harry Potter books that are now worth thousands of dollars. AbeBooks.com connects sellers and buyers of used books, rare books and even used textbooks! On their site, they note that they've already sold 55 Harry Potter books priced over $1,000.

We've written in the past about various Canadian coins and bills being worth thousands of dollars, but there are endless collectables out there if you know where, and what, to look for.

Here is a list of the most expensive Harry Potter books and what to look for to see if the ones in your basement or bookshelf could be worth more than the price on the back!

$37,000 - Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

An unread first issue, first edition from the original 500 copies published "before anyone knew J.K. Rowling's name." Probably the most expensive Harry Potter book ever sold.

The books listed above the 10 most expensive books sold on AbeBooks.com, though as I mentioned above, they have sold 55 Harry Potter books over the $1,000 mark.

So if yours isn't a signed, unread first edition, don't lose hope. You never know what kind of treasure you have kicking around!
