Cold weather and COVID-19 can't take away all of our fun. Despite the provincial government announcing a slew of new health measures, outdoor activities remain open for business, which means you can still glide your way across this massive sledding and tubing park located about an hour outside Montreal.
Glissades des Pays d'en Haut — which offers 61 trails, 15,000 lifts per hour, five types of sleds, 13 sliding zones, four difficulty levels and 80 metres of vertical drop — is the perfect place to embrace the winter spirit. As a bonus, it's open seven days a week and lights up after dark.
'"The artificial snowmaking that started at the beginning of November, as well as our enormous snow production capacity, allowed us to take advantage of all of Mother Nature's cold spells, in order to offer our clientele an incomparable site at the beginning of this sliding season!" the Domaine des Pays d'en Haut team said in a statement.
Glissades des Pays d'en Haut's five different sled options are: bobsleighs, vortex360s, rafts, tornados, and regular snow tubes.
The snow tubes are likely the most familiar-looking and are designed for all levels while the tornados, which fit two to eight people, and vortex360s, which fit two to six people, are for expert-level sliders, spinning themselves as they descend.
Rafts can fit the most people — up to 12 — and are intermediate level while bobsleighs, also intermediate, look comparable to what you might see in the Olympics... but you won't go quite as fast.
If you plan to go to the park, you should dress warmly and bring your vaccine passport. Helmets and goggles are available to rent but, due to COVID-19 measures, you can only access the chalet to warm up and use the restrooms.
You can buy your ticket online in advance. A daily ticket for an adult starts at $26 for two hours of regular tubing.

Looks like we're going to be extra cold this year. Not only is Igloofest making its grand return to Montreal after a pandemic-related hiatus, but festival organizers also announced the launch of its first-ever edition Quebec City in March 2022.
The lineup for the three-day dance party in the capital includes DJs and bands including KAYTRANADA, Lou Phelps, LOU FRE$H, Rossy, Deathpact, Zeds Dead, gardenstate, Sinca and Above & Beyond.
Igloofest Quebec City will go down at the Place Jean-Béliveau. And though it'll be far removed from the Montreal party atmosphere, organizers say to expect much of the same cool electric vibe, including that famous icy decor and funky stage design.
"Igloofest is back in a big way for its 15th anniversary, and we're celebrating the occasion by holding Igloofest in its original format in Québec City for the first time," Pascal Lefebvre, co-founder and CEO of Multicolore, an Igloofest partner, said in a statement.
"We are animated by our creative collaborations and we are thrilled that they make it possible for us to kick off our Québec City edition with such a strong program. It will be three nights to remember for fans of winter, music and unconventional experiences."
The festival will take place on March 16, 18 and 19, 2022.
Three-day passes are on sale now starting at $84. Single-night tickets will go on sale on December 16 and start at $30 each.
Igloofest Montréal will also once again take over the Old Port from January 13 to February 5, 2022.
Whether you can't wait to drink hot chocolate and skate with your besties or to enjoy evening light shows, you'll be happy to know the Old Port skating rink is on again in Montreal this year, and we finally know its official opening date.
Located on the Bonsecours Basin in Old Montreal, this skating rink is a must for Montrealers and tourists as it is located at the foot of the Ferris wheel and offers a magnificent view of the city and the river.
For the 2021-2022 season, the site will be open to all starting December 11, when a special opening night is organized. After that, the site will be open every day until March 6.
Skating will be possible Monday to Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and until 10 p.m. on Christmas holidays. December 31 and February 26 will be special evenings when skaters can enjoy the ice until 1 a.m.
On the program, there are DJ nights every Thursday starting January 6, special "skate dating" days, "karaoke on ice" nights on January 28 and February 26, and other special events.
It costs $8.05 for admission, but a season pass is also available. If purchased before December 11, the pass is discounted by 25% for a total of $24 for the winter.
You can rent equipment for an additional cost, like a pair of skates for $10.45, but you can also rent a lock, helmet or walker for $4.35 each. Use of the on-site lockers is free.
