I've been religiously taking Uber for the last couple of months and noticed a funky recurrence. A lot of Uber drivers try to flirt and even shamelessly hit on their clients. Don't get me wrong though, I love Uber!

I enjoy how clean the cars are, how convenient the app and payment are, how you can stream your own music - it's all really great! However, I feel like, since Uber drivers are normal guys who, in general, have other full time jobs, they tend to not act very professional with their clients.

Last Friday is when I realized that I needed to make this issue public. I was out with my office team. It was a fun night, we had a nice dinner, then drinks... you know, the usual. When my Uber car arrived, I was feeling a bit tipsy, but I was still very aware of my surroundings. I jokingly told my driver that I was really drunk, so he said, "Don't worry honey, I'll take care of you."

On our way to my place, he offered to treat me to a McDonald's trio... I was totally going to pay, but he refused to take my money. That's where things started to get really weird. There I am, silently stuffing my face with free nuggets and he doesn't shut up about how he's married and has two children. So I think to myself, "Ok, cool, I'm safe." Nope, turns out I wasn't safe at all.

As soon as he found out that I write for MTL blog, he said, "You need a crazy Uber sex story to write about." I just rolled my eyes and pretended like it was a funny joke, but he continued, "I'm totally serious, by the way. Are you down? Or are you going to chicken out?"

At this point, I was freaking out in my head, thinking - that's it, I'm getting raped tonight. We were literally two minutes away from my house. I didn't reply anything to his provocative question and stormed out of the car as soon as we got to the destination. I guess he thought I was drunk enough to make bad decisions. Oh, well.

The next day I shared my story with a bunch of girlfriends and, turns out, I'm not alone in my failed Uber romance world. Apparently, a lot of drivers hit on their clients, it's like a thing. If you think that this only happens with Uber, think again! Remember when Montreal police told women not to take taxis in the city alone anymore because of the risk of being sexually assaulted? Yikes!

"Dear drivers, you seriously need to take a chill pill."

Sincerely,

all Montreal women
