People Are Taking To Twitter To Express Pride In Canada As U.S. Shutdown And Brexit Chaos Continues

It has been impossible to ignore the fact that the American government has been shut down for nearly a month. Add onto that the fact that Britain is starting to face the reality of the impending Brexit withdrawal from the EU in March.

Meanwhile, in Canada,Justin Trudeauhas been featured as a hero in the most recent Family Guy episode while simultaneously hosting town hall meetings across the country, further proving he is a chill and down-to-earth boss of a Prime Minister.

Needless to say, Canadians are feeling a little extra proud lately, and to be honest, we don't blame them.

TL;DR While Britain and the U.S. struggle through uncertain times, Canada is just up here chillin' with our mild-mannered Prime Minister. So, there's no surprise that Canadians are feeling pretty proud these days.

The world seems like a pretty scary place these days.

And while I'm aware that the country is divided on the pipeline issue, and Indigenous people continue to be forgotten and ignored, there are a lot of things in Canada to be proud of... and clearly, the tweets below corroborate that.

So proud to be Canadian!! 🇨🇦 🇨🇦 🙌

It seemsthe recent surge of Canadian pride is a direct result of what's going on with our greatest allies. That is to say, the chaos of the American government shutdown and the impending exit of Britain from the EU...

People ask what makes Canada different? In the US, leaders shut down the government over a wall to keep keep people out.

Meanwhile, a Canadian premier just tweeted out this photo.

Headline in each country:

UK - Brexit will tear this country apart today.

USA - government shutdown longest in US history. Trump unwilling to budge over border Wall.

Canada - is there too much fighting in hockey?

Like I expressed above, there's no pretending Canada is "perfect" — far from it.

But with our neighbours to the south as a comparison, it's not hard to see why so many Canadians are feeling especially lucky and proud to call Canada home.

Canada has our problems, but with Brexit and the US govt shutdown, we are looking pretty solid up here

Watching from Canada and it's mind-boggling that the government can even shut down. Nevermind how it's employees are being treated.

Canada is involved in its fair share of drama, to be sure, if you consider ongoing tension with Saudi Arabia and China to be noteworthy.

But those issues arose from Canada sticking to its principles in areas of human rights — areas where Canada and the aforementioned countries just simply don't see eye-to-eye.

UK: "Oh man, that racist Brexit thing is a disaster! We are going to get no deal!"

US: "Oh man, that racist Wall thing is a disaster! We are getting a huge government shutdown!"

Canada: "*YouTube ad about maybe building some fucking pipes somewhere*"

January 16, 2019

I have to say, the pipeline is something I, personally, consider a pretty big issue, largely because Canadians do seem to be quite divided on what the right step forward is.

But whether you're pro- or anti-pipeline, it is important to acknowledge that regardless of political views, the land is unceded Indigenous territory and should be considered as such in all discussions of pipeline construction.

Please bring the popcorn, Canada is watching.

Federal courts will run out of operating funds on Jan. 25 and face “serious disruptions” if the shutdown continues.

But Canadians definitely enjoy watching some petty drama abroad.

usa in shutdown. britain with brexit problems. *sigh*

canada, oz & nz keepin' anglosphere dreams afloat....

You'd never see a government shutdown like this in Canada or Australia. If they can't decide on a budget, they just have a new election. Elected officials shouldn't be able to hold their own citizens hostage. Land of the Free my ass.

We aren't the only Commonwealth country to recieve praise on our current state of affairs, either.

It's safe to say New Zealand and Australia are doing their part in keeping chill amidst rising political climates.

The U.S government is shutdown, Parliament in the UK is barely functioning, This is like Children of Men. Only Canada soldiers on.

Canada one of the best places to live in we got black business woman and civil rights movement aide Viola Desmond on $10 bills AND weed is legal. Plus our prime minster isn’t shut down or trying to build a wall. Come thru sometime

For some Americans, though, Canada has come to symbolize the last bastion of hope in their surreal current situation.

Even some American political figures have given up on the system in the U.S., if Rand Paul, Republican senator and outspoken hater of universal healthcare, coming to Canada to get surgery during the shutdown is any indication.

Great optics. US Senator going to Canada for hernia surgery. Can’t make it up !!!!

Maybe we should just invade, take over and protect our Southern brothers from their self-inflicted suffering.

It would be pretty un-Canadian to invade and take over another country though... just saying.

Please Canada, while the government is shut down, invade us.

January 16, 2019

The US Government is shut down.
The UK is self-immolating.
We need to face facts...
It's time for Canada to invade.

Or better yet, as this guy suggests, we can just adopt the northern states that are practically honourary provinces at this point anyway.

Though... messing with the border like that... we'd hate to incite any more border drama, y'know?

I wonder if Alaska, Maine, North Dakota, all states bordering Canada would like to join Confederation? I mean with all this government shut-down, I'm sure they'd love to become Canadians! Kudos @JoshTL for helping hatch this grand plan. #TrueNorthStrongandFree

Maybe it's less about states and borders and more about... who's in charge.

This guy gets it... but I still wouldn't trade.

How about if Canada sends us Trudeau we send you Pelosi and Trump goes somewhere tropical. Like GITMO. #TrumpTreason

The reality is the issues in the States and Britain will be solved soon enough and everyone can go back to being proud of themselves.

Until then, though, we can hold our head high and keep being the nice-ass human beings we are.
