Montreal's Chinese community has a long history, going all the way back to the late 1800s, as Chinese immigrants migrated from western to eastern Canada.
The first Chinese owned and operated laundromats, tea shops, and restaurants in Montreal were already up and running by the turn of the 19th century and laid the foundation for what is now known as Chinatown.
After more than a few bouts of discrimination on a local and federal level, Montreal's Chinese community held strong and made Chinatown one of the city's most iconic districts.
