Poutine Hash Brown Waffles Is A Breakfast You Can Now Make For Yourself

There's a certain sense of satisfaction you get when you make a dish better than anything you can get at a restaurant. When it comes to dinner food, that can be a bit difficult, as Montreal is home to a lot of amazing restaurants that serve world-class dishes.

Breakfast/brunch is a different ball game. Don't get me wrong, Montreal has some amazing brunch spots, but in all honesty, making a breakfast dish is pretty easy in comparison to other meals. The only hitch is, when you're tired (and maybe a little hungover) and craving something carb-y and delicious, you don't really want to prepare your own meal.

Rest assured the Poutine Hash Brown Waffle by Nutmeg Nanny will be worth the effort. Taking the now-classic notion of the breakfast poutine to the next level, this dish is pure unadulterated comfort.

Assembling the poutine-meets-waffle creation isn't all that difficult, either. The potato-waffle is quickly crafted with prepared/frozen hash browns, and if you just used pre-made or canned gravy, the hardest part will be frying the eggs.

If you do go the already-made gravy route, all you'll need is:

  • 1 bag hash browns
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup cheese curds
  • 4 fried eggs
  • Salt and pepper
  • Gravy

The assembly is pretty straight forward too. For anyone who wants a more detailed rundown, head to the original recipe here:

  • Preheat waffle iron
  • Mix the egg and hash brown, adding in some salt and pepper
  • Place mixture in waffle iron and cook until golden brown and crispy.
  • Generously add cheese curds on top of waffles.
  • Douse with gravy.
  • Add a fried egg.
  • Gorge.

By the end, you should have something like this.

Enjoy everybody, and remember, calories don't count at breakfast.
