Quebec Family Tried To Cross Border To Canada With Body Of Father Who Died On The Way Home From Vacation
As a point of exchange and screening, the border between Canada and the United States, the longest in the world, is often the site of bizarre incidents.
But this latest case may be the strangest yet.
In a tragic turn of events, a Quebec man in his late-80's died as his family returned from a vacation in Florida, according to reports.
TLDR: A Quebec family attempted to cross the border into Canada with the dead body of their patriarch in the back seat. An investigation is ongoing.
But instead of contacting local authorities, the family, daunted by the cost of American healthcare, according to CTV, attempted to cross back into Canada with the body of the elderly man in the back of the car.
The man had reportedly died a full two days prior from natural causes. No foul play is initially evident.
Now authorities are weighingwhether to press charges against the family. The mother and son were understandably upset after having experienced the trauma of transporting the corpse of their loved one.
Quebec police and Canadian Border Services agents are trained to monitor for Americans transporting marijuana to and from weed-loving Canada, but healthcare benefits, too, inspire incredible acts of infiltration.
It is heartbreaking that American healthcare and end-of-life services are so inaccessible that people feel they must endure such terrible exploits.
Sûreté du Québec is still investigating the incident.
Stay tuned for updates.
