Quebec Is Hosting A 'Water Lantern Festival' Off The Coast Of Montreal

Montreal is the unofficial festival capital of North America. Each summer, organizers pack in as many activities into the fleeting warm months as they can. Because Montrealers are so eager to capitalize on the beautiful weather, the city and its surroundings are host to a wide range of festivals that appeal to a diverse array of interests.

This year, one festival in particular is sure to attract the attention of all Montrealers.

The Water Lantern Festival is set to take over Oka Beach just west of Montreal — a one-hour trip from the downtown.

According to its website, "the Water Lantern Festival is filled with entertainment, happiness, hope, and good memories that you will cherish forever."

TL;DR The Water Lantern Festival will take place on September 28th at Oka Beach, west of Montreal.

"It is a friendly and family event that can be shared by everyone. Friends, families, neighbors and people you have not met yet can come together to create a peaceful and memorable experience."

"Watch your unique lantern drift into the water as it joins other lanterns that bring hope, love, happiness, healing, peace and connection. It's a night you'll never forget."

Thankfully, festival organizers are also committed to environmental responsibility: "all lanterns will be picked up after the event by our awesome staff and amazing team. In addition, they are 100% ecological, made of wood and rice paper."

The event, which will take place on September 28th, 2019, will celebrate the coming of autumn. Participants will have the chance to write a message on their lantern before casting it into the Lac des Deux Montagnes.

According to eventbrite, each adult ticket to the festival includes:

  • "Entry into the festival area"

  • "A lantern that floats"

  • "A commemorative bag"

  • "A marker"

A ticket purchased before September 15th costs $38.99. Thereafter, tickets are $42.99 each.
