38-year-old Marco Beausoleil will have to serve a nine-month probation period, and pay a hefty fine, for stealing 5 million honey bees from Saint-Valère, Quebec.
Half his fine of $40,000 will be used to compensate the family that owned the beehives.
In April 2016, members of the Labonté family discovered that 184 hives were missing from their beekeeping operation.
Beausoleil's brother, Yannick, was also accused of robbery and possession of stolen goods. However, he was eventually acquitted.
The missing bees have never been found.
