Montreal Now Has 3,261 Confirmed COVID-19 Cases, Nearly Half Of The Province's Total
During the Government of Quebec's daily briefing about the coronavirus situation in the province, Geneviève Guilbault, Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Safety, replaced Premier François Legault in speaking to the public. As of April 4, there are now a total of 6,997 COVID-19 cases in Quebec. On the previous day, April 3, there were 6,101 confirmed cases announced.
There have now been 75 deaths in the province caused by the coronavirus, to which Guilbault offered her deepest condolences to the families and friends of these individuals.
Of the current 6,997 confirmed cases in Quebec, 3,261 are in the Montreal region.
Guilbault mentioned that she gets that it can be difficult to follow all the rules that the government has asked of us, but we must continue to do so — because doing so means saving the lives of many.
She also reminded the public that for the ones that are not following the government's health guidelines and orders, there are police everywhere ready to give them tickets.
On that note, she also asked that we continue to respect police officers — now more than ever. It is a difficult time for them as well.
Dr. Horacio Arruda confirmed that community transmission of the virus is now happening all over Quebec.

During this conference, the Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Safety also reminded everyone that in order to stop the spread of the virus, it is crucial that individuals do not travel in different regions of Quebec — unless absolutely necessary.
Mayor Valérie Plante has also recently asked that all Montrealers remain in their own neighbourhoods.

A positive note that can be taken from this update is that 83,230 people have tested negative for coronavirus in Quebec.
The province of Quebec continues to be one of the places in the world that tests the most, said Guilbault during the press conference.
