Quebec Now Has Over 42k COVID-19 Cases With Montreal's Case Count Exceeding 21k

Our province's case count continues to rise, with 763 new cases reported in the past 24 hours. Yesterday, there were 41,420 cases announced. And now, on Saturday, May 16, there are officially 42,183 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Quebec.

Montreal remains the problematic area within the province and has been referred to as the "epicentre" of the virus in Quebec since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are currently 21,410 confirmed cases in the region of Montreal.

During his visit to Montreal the past two days, François Legault said that it remains a possibility that certain retail stores in the city could open on May 25 as anticipated. But, this will involve Montrealers getting into the habit of wearing protective face masks.

The premier said such "could convince" government officials to keep the reopening date as is.

As for elementary schools in the Montreal area*, it was announced this past Thursday that they won't be reopening until next school year.

After Montreal, Montérégie and Laval remain the regions with the highest number of COVID-19 cases, with 5,230 and 4,596 respectively.

As it stands right now, the province has seen 3,483 deaths related to the novel coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.

There have been 11,458 individuals in Quebec who have recovered from the virus so far.

And, there are currently 3,010 cases that remain under investigation in Quebec.

Santé Québec confirms in the tweet above that 282,551 people have tested negative for COVID-19 in the province up until now.

It also tells us that on Friday, May 14, 13,011 tests were performed in Quebec.
