So what's to blame?

Are we just lazy? Is our "joie de vivre" stopping us from working too hard?

Well according to researchers they think our workplaces themselves are the cause. They say our work is more stressful, our bosses are more demanding, and our workplaces offer a poor quality of life.

The research also showed that women skip work far more often than men. They take an extra 4 days off a year on average.

Men VS Women

  • Women: 14,1 Average missed days in 2016

  • Men: 10,3 Average missed days in 2016

Here's how the rest of the provinces ranked:

  • Alberta: 7,5 Average missed days per year.

  • Ontario: 8,5 Average missed days per year.

  • BC: 9,4 Average missed days per year.

  • Newfoundland: 9,7 Average missed days per year.
