Quebecers are lucky enough to live in a province that many of Canada's best employers call home and where many others maintain a strong presence. Montreal is, in fact, host to offices of 13 of the country's best places to work, according to Glassdoor's annual list. But none of them can top the generosity of one small business in Trois-Rivières, which, for its 60th birthday, is bringing all of its employees to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The restaurant, Le Grec, announced the birthday celebration on its website.
"On January 7, the le Grec family will fly to Punta Cana for a week to celebrate the 60th anniversary of [the] restaurant."
"The extraordinary year that we all experienced together with the restaurant's 60th anniversary will thus end in beauty and the team will be energized for the good years to come."
"In total," the restaurant explains, "62 employees and their family members will be in attendance."
The company-wide vacation isn't the only investment in employees, either.
During the two-week stay in the Dominican, the restaurant will undergo some renovations to enhance employee spaces, including work to "improve [...] rest areas and add a brand new conference room, offices, and a health and wellness area."
Under the announcement of the collective vacation on Facebook, many customers are offering their own words of appreciation for a company that cares so deeply for its workers.
"Very good restaurant by the way and thank you for spoiling your employees," wrote one commenter (translated from French).
"If there were more employers like that we would have less shortage of labour. Bravo, always a pleasure to go eat in this great institution," wrote another.
Indeed, the news is bound to give some people some serious job envy.
As one Facebook user wrote, "this makes you want to change jobs! Congratulations for this great recognition of your employees. It's priceless!!!"
On its website, Le Grec explains that its philosophy is rooted in its familial bonds and a Greek tradition of hospitality — values it seems to extend to its employees.
Le Grec will be closed between January 6 and 16 while its team enjoys the beach.
