Quebec TV Star Éric Salvail Has Been Arrested For Sexual Assault
Éric Salvail was arrested early this afternoon on three counts of sexual assault.
A couple of weeks ago, the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) finished examining Salvail's case, and now we finally have a verdict.
TL;DR Quebecois radio and TV-personality, Éric Salvail, has been arrested on three counts of sexual assault including forcible confinement in the workplace. The trial is slated to begin the 15th of February.
Salvail is a 49-year-old Quebec radio and television personality known for hosting game shows and radio programs.
Allegations of sexual misconduct from eleven different people came out last year amidst the Weinstein scandal and #MeToo movement. His misconduct spans nearly fifteen years.
Formal charges include sexual assault, forcible confinement, and harassment that occurred over the course of several months in 1993.
Though nearly a dozen people have testified against Eric Salvail and his inappropriate behaviour since the beginning of the investigation, it is currently down to the accusations of only one person that made the charges stick.
As per the Journal de Montréal, the arrest warrant reads as follows: "between 1 April 1993 and 30 November 1993, Eric Salvail sexually assaulted [the victim]".
In 1993, Salvail was hosting shows on Radio-Canada such as Moi et l'autre, Chabada, Le Point J, and La Petite Vie.
The Quebec entertainment personality has been released on bail under the promise to appear before the court on February 15.
