Quebec Will Be Hit Its First Heatwave Of The Year Next Week & It Could Feel Like 35 C

Spring has been hard, but this week's sunny skies aren't some cruel joke: nice weather is actually back for good. Quebec's first heatwave of the year is on its way with the humidex as high as 35 next week. According to MétéoMédia, a mass of warm air coming from the southern United States will arrive over Quebec as early as Monday, May 25, with temperatures above 25 degrees.

Low-pressure systems will also bring with them a lot of humidity. So much so that the high humidex level could persist until May 30.

The overwhelming heat will affect much of Quebec, with the most marked humidity in the west, south, and centre of the province.

Meteorologists warn that the nights will also be uncomfortable, as the heat will remain even after sunset.

Next week's temperatures could break records, especially in Montreal.

With an average maximum of over 26 C, the last week of May could be among the 10 warmest on record in the city since 1848.

High humidity means instability in the air and even if the sun is shining, thunderstorms could also occur.

From Tuesday, May 26 to Saturday, May 30, there will be storm risks, although it is not yet known whether they will bring rain.

At the beginning of June, temperatures should return to seasonal normals — around 20 degrees.

If you're one of the lucky ones with air conditioning or even a pool, it's time to make sure everything is ready!

Next week will also mark the beginning of more normal activities in the city.

Some outdoor group gatherings are allowed as of March 22 across Quebec.

The city is also reopening some park spaces and sports facilities just in time for the hot weather.

On Monday, May 25, retail stores with their own entrances from the outside will finally open their doors to the Montreal public.

Residents are encouraged to continue to follow public health guidelines in all cases.

The week of return to a (somewhat) new normal will be a scorcher!
