The sun setting over lavender fields.

The sun setting over lavender fields.

Hang in there, fellow Montrealers, winter is almost over. Do you know what that means? It's time to get excited for summer! Because everyone knows that spring is almost non-existent in our city.

Having said that, one of the most breathtaking and unique experiences to look forward to this summer would be to visit Bleu Lavande, a magical lavender field located near Montreal in the Eastern Townships (about a 1.5-hour drive from downtown).

Bleu Lavande was started in 2004 by a Quebecer who had a dream of growing lavender – and pulled it off. Today, it's more than just a beautiful setting. It's a business with a lot to offer: a boutique selling organic lavender products, guided tours, massotherapy, yoga and meditation classes, food tastings, picnics, music festivals and so many more fun things.

The flowers usually bloom in late July and this is when the landscape is at its most spectacular. However, Bleu Lavande activities start as early as June and as summer progresses, more fun things are added to the schedule.

The boutique is open year round and free tours begin on May 14th and finish as late as October 9th, 2016. Admission prices are quite reasonable and range between $5 and $25. You can find more info here.

Imagine how mind-blowing it must be to have a picnic overlooking a lavender field? I honestly can't wait to visit this gorgeous outdoor venue. Did I mention lavender wine? Yes, it's a thing and you gotta try it.
