Quebec Officials Have Offered Tips For Moving During The COVID-19 Outbreak

Quebec's famous July 1 moving day is rapidly approaching. And, I think it goes without saying that things are going to be looking a little different this year. So, many have been left with questions about how exactly moving is going to be possible in light of the current social distancing measures put in place.

Since some things cannot be avoided, the Sûreté du Québec has come up with tips for the public to follow if they're going to be moving while the pandemic lasts.

With leases often ending on the last day of June, many individuals have started looking online for new apartments to rent.

And now, in light of the current situation that we find ourselves in, some apartment visits have started being done virtually.

But when your actual moving day comes around, it may not be as easy to continue practicing social distancing.

So, here's some advice from Quebec officials and a moving company on how to continue respecting the rules as you make your way into your new home!

To start off, the Government of Quebec has released a guide about moving during this pandemic period.

In the post you see above, it states that the government has suggested that "if your move isn't essential, favour the renewal of your lease current."

Along with this, it asks that in the midst of your move, you continue to follow safety precautions that help reduce the spread of the virus, like washing your hands and avoiding touching your face.

On the Sûreté du Québec's official Twitter account, they shared three points to remember before you start moving.

Translation: "1– Avoid any non-essential move. If moving is essential, call on professional movers."

Many moving companies have switched up their rules to ensure they are following proper sanitary measures enforced by the government, so officials say they are the safer bet.

The government's request to avoid all non-essential travel continues to be in place, so this will play a factor when you are moving.

Translation: "2– If this is impossible and you absolutely need help with your move, prefer the help of loved ones who live in the same residence as you or nearby. If you were to pass a checkpoint, you will have to prove that your movement is essential."

But, if you must, then make sure you have a way to prove that your move is absolutely essential — just in case.

Thirdly, the Sûreté du Québec asks that you try to have as few people involved as possible.

Translation: "3– Limit the number of people present and keep, as far as possible, a distance of 2 meters between all. It also means that once the move is made, everyone goes home, without lingering."

And, no hanging out once it's all over...

Once your move has been completed, the Government of Quebec suggests that you wait 24 hours before taking your things out of boxes.

During this time, you should clean and disinfected all surfaces all well as possible, paying specific attention to the bathroom.

And, make sure to wash all fabrics in hot water to help kill germs.
