This Summer the temperatures that have been reached in Montreal have been more than uncomfortable. We knew it as a province-wide heat wave. For anyone who didn't already own an air conditioner, they would experience absolute torture until they finally bought one. The streets were often close to empty as everyone remained where they found cooler conditions, others who were brave enough to venture outdoors could only stand a few minutes before experiencing the pain of the ridiculous heat.ย

By the end of July, over 70 people in Quebec had died. This is not a normal occurence. People don't just die because it's really hot, especially in numbers this enormous. Just when we thought the Summer heat wave was coming to an end, forecasts for the rest of the month concluded that we should expect the heatwaves to frequently return. The question we're all asking right now is.. why?!
Well, there's actually a scientific reason, and you're not going to like it. The entire world is seriously heading towards an irreversible "hothouse" condition. This means that worldwide temperatures will on average be 4-5 degrees Celsius higher than ever before, among other heat-related changes the earth will go through.ย
Scientists made this conclusion after the insanely hot Summer the entire globe has been having. So, no, you weren't over exaggerating when you complained about the deadly heat.
Quebec was only one of many places around the world that had pushed temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius more often than scientists are comfortable with. Another indicator that environmental changes are definitely going on was the massive wildfires in Greece that caused almost 100 deaths. Let's also not forget the continuing wildfires in both Ontario and British Columbia.ย
So, this truly does sound like an apocalypse is coming. It's been confirmed that places on Earth will become uninhabitable if heat like this continues. Outcomes of a global "hothouse" condition not only include deadly temperatures that never go away but also weaker land, loss of Arctic ice, disappearance of polar ice sheets and essentially anything to do with cold temperatures. We are seriously heading for a massive disaster.
@fasteddy107There is a possibility to reverse some of the damage done to the Earth and hold off on the "hothouse" state for as long as possible. For example, if the entire world actually makes the decision to prioritize improving forests and creating biodiversity technology that can remove some of the harmful carbon dioxide from the environment, it would definitely be a step in the right direction.
Unfortunately, no one really knows what's in store for years to come. All we can be certain of right now is that temperatures are insanely hot, and they don't seem to be going away anytime soon.
