Shark Attacks 8-Year-Old Boy Who Was Swimming In The Ocean

This is the third attack in less than 3 weeks.
Shark Attacks 8-Year-Old Boy Who Was Swimming In The Ocean

It seems that with temperatures on the rise and more people swimming, shark attacks have started to seriously increase in frequency, particularly off the coast of North Carolina.

The most recent attack happened yesterday when an 8-year-old boy was swimming. While we don't know the boy's identity, we do know that he was bitten in the leg and was immediately rushed to hospital.

Luckily the boy was okay, but it is absolutely terrifying to imagine what he went through. Even scarier: this is the third shark attack in that area in June alone.

Luckily, the boy is expected to make a full recovery from the shark attack. According to USA Today, the boy was bitten in the leg while swimming in the ocean off the coast of North Carolina, around Bald Head Island.

After the attack, the boy was taken to hospital by way of the island's ferry. And while there have been no updates on his status, the nature of the bite indicated that he would recover.

According to the USA Today article, there have been two other shark attacks orf the coast of North Carolina and the surrounding area just in June.

The first was a 19-year-old boy who was bitten off the coast of Ocean Isle while he was surfing. The second was a 17-year-old girl who "lost most of her leg," at Fort Macon State Park.

Another detail we don't have is the type of shark that caused the attack. Recently, off the coast of Maui in Hawaii, a man suffered from a fatal shark attack at the jaws of a tiger shark.

So here in Montreal, we can be grateful for the fact that we don't have to worry about sharks while we swim... for now.
