A stretch of St. Catherine's may become a car-less pedestrian zone in time for Montreal's 375th b-day celebration. The initiative aims to remake 650 metres (or more) of St. Cats between Bleury and Mansfield street, but has been met with mixed reviews.

  • Gilbert Rozon, Commissioner of the Society for the Celebration of Montréal's 375th Anniversary, believes a St. Catherines pedestrian zone will make the street more lively and energetic.
  • Critics of the proposal believe the transition could hurt the downtown core, using Prince Arthur as an example of a pedestrian zone initiative gone wrong, despite being considered a 'success' for years.
  • Dennis Coderre has not endorsed or downvoted the proposal, only wanting St. Catherines to become more energetic. Could this be the way to do it?

What do you think Montreal?
