It is no secret that the world's population of vegans, vegetarians and even flexitarians is growing. More and more individuals are opting to pass on meat, whether it's all the time or whenever they can — which means that restaurants and grocers have been required to keep up with the growing demand for meat alternatives. Enter, Starbucks Canada. One of the first coffee shops where you could sub your dairy for a vegan-friendly alternative, the coffee chain has just announced they will now be serving up Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwiches as of March 3, 2020.
The sandwich will consist of a vegetable-based patty on a homemade bun with cheddar cheese and an egg, and will certainly fill the Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich void left after Tim Hortons decided to pull the veg-friendly option from their menus.
Plus, Starbucks tells us that they worked with Beyond Meat especially to create this patty, meaning it's not what you've tried at Timmies or A&W or elsewhere.
The patty is, in fact, unique to Starbucks and is being made with a special recipe particularly for Canadian consumers.
Yes, Canada will be the first market to see these breakfast sandwiches in Starbucks stores
According to a Starbucks spokesperson, the decision to launch a Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich in Canada follows a January 21 Sustainability Announcement where Starbucks committed itself to offering "a range of plant-based options to make its menu more environmentally friendly."
Here is the beautiful breakfast sandwich in question. The patty is prepared with a special blend of herbs and spices, including oregano, basil, rosemary and fennel.
Starbucks does currently have other veg-friendly breakfast options, as you can see below.
Particularly noteworthy is the vegan-friendly sprouted grain bagel with avocado spread.
No details yet on the price of this new breakfast addition, but we can assume it will likely be similar to its meatier counterparts, with the potential for a bit of a mark-up, as has been the case with Beyond Meat options at other retailers.
And, of course, Starbucks continues to have a huge selection of non-dairy milk options, like coconut, almond, and soy... so if you're like me and coffee is breakfast... you're set.
Head to a Starbucks near you on March 3, 2020, to try their new Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich!
