Starbucks Canada Released Its New Holiday Drinks Today And Customers Are Calling It A Total Disaster

In Canada, November 1st means the beginning of winter holiday preparations.

While American Thanksgiving in late November inhibits holiday planning until the end of the month, Canadians waste no time transitioning from Halloween to December decorations.

TL;DR Customers are reporting problems with the Starbucks holiday drink promotion, in which the first 50 customers to order them were supposed to receive reusable red cups.

Big brands are usually the first to capitalize on this cultural-seasonal shift. Store windows get decorative trimmings, holiday sale dates are scheduled, and wintry novelty items suddenly become available.

For years now, Starbucks has been the unofficial harbinger of the holiday season. Its peppermint beverages, little Christmas treats, and, of course, holiday-themed cups have become seasonal staples.

This year, however, Canadians may have to wait a little longer to get their hands on some of the new cups. According to customers on Twitter, the rollout of the cups has been plagued with difficulties.

The company only yesterday unveiled its new line of cups. The announcement came with great fanfare.

Starbucks also announced the debut of a reusable version of the famous red cups, which would be available to the first 50 store customers that ordered holiday drinks today.

But many are reporting that first supplies are depleting much earlier than expected.

When I go to my Starbucks to get the free reusable cup with my Xmas drink and they’re already sold out at 9am 🙃

@StarbucksCanada pretty disappointed went to an unpopular Starbucks 30 min after it opened and ordered a holiday drink and I didn't get a red cup. There's no way this store sold 50 in the 30 min. ☹️

I bought a peppermint mocha drink this morning and I didn't get the usable red cup. It was advertised in store but nobody informed me or other customers before me that got a holiday drink as well about it and would like to know why? Why didn't we get a holiday cup or red cup? pic.twitter.com/b8TYnh9hjl

Other locations seem to not be participating in the promotion.

Visited my local @StarbucksCanada this morning to get my reusable red cup and the location did not even know about the promotion. Ended up waiting around for 20 minutes. Very disappointed and so not worth it.

Some have also reported that the company has raised prices unannounced:

Others have experienced problems with the Starbucks app:

@StarbucksCanada I've uninstalled and downloaded the app twice. The app won't even load when I'm on wifi, just data. What's going on? pic.twitter.com/QvxHC9PBOH

So, clearly, there's a lot of confusion about the availability of the cups.

Hopefully Starbucks Canada will be able to offer some clarification in the coming days.

Have you successfully purchased a Starbucks red holiday cup today?
