While Montreal's summer heat occasionally echoes the sweltering warmth of the Southern United States, it’s the suffocating humidity that really reminds me of my North Carolina roots. Still, my heart often yearns for the comforting flavours of home: the greasy fried chicken and the slow-smoked brisket, staples of Southern cuisine that formed the backdrop of my childhood. Transplanted into Canada's most Francophone province, I've grappled with the futility of replicating these culinary experiences — until now.

I wasn't sure that trying Canadian barbecue as a Southerner was a great idea but went against all better judgment to Le Boucan Smokehouse, a Griffintown restaurant with nods from Eater Montreal (rest in peace), CBC and even the Food Network. Of all the meals I could bring to my homesick palate, I hoped against hope that this one might do the trick.

Summer weather has reached Quebec extra early this year, which means we're all looking for fun activities to do on sunny days. And spending time floating away on one of Top Dopico's BBQ Donuts is something that definitely needs to be added to your summertime bucket list.

This company lets you rent inflatable tubes and hang out on the water in groups of two to eight people, according to the website.

Whether you're shopping for handmade clothes that fit your new WFH lifestyle, ordering takeout from a small restaurant or picking out farm-to-table ingredients for dinner, we've become increasingly aware that buying local is good for our communities.

Last Friday was my birthday, and my only wish was to have a nice dinner without having to travel too far.

So I asked our resident food blogger Miranda Cipolla which restaurant she recommended.

Few cuisines say"summer" quite like barbecue, and as we all know, if there's one dish that trumps all others, it is the mighty BBQ Rib (sorry pulled pork). The literally finger-licking good food that simply loves to get your mouth messy.

There is truly nothing is better than delicious ribs cooked up on a hot grill, and come this June, we'll all be able to enjoy a whole festival entirely devoted to all-things-ribs. An event otherwise known as Le Grande Ribfest de Montréal 2016.

Classic, American-style barbecue isn't exactly widespread across the island of Montreal, but that isn't to say the city doesn't have some amazing BBQ restaurants.

But as with any type of cuisine, there are many intricacies to the art of barbecue, and not all of Montreal's best BBQ spots are quite equal when it comes to specific dishes.

Alright, food lovers, I've got a bit of a question for you: what's better than a platter of delicious, juicy barbecued meats? Nothing. The answer to that question is nothing, because the combination of tender meats and delicious, smoky, saucy flavours just cannot be beat.

Certain cuisines simply don't lend well to being vegan-ized, especially when a majority of dishes contain meat (or animal by-products) of some form. Case in point: Southern food, which is pretty much centered on big hunks of meat paired with a multitude of buttery sides.

Fried chicken, brisket, jambalaya, are but a sample of examples of the many meat-centric mains part of Southern cuisine. Even the side dishes are chock full of vegan-unfriendly ingredients, like gravy-doused mash potatoes and butter covered green beans.

Just as one Montreal festival ends, another begins, and there's now word of a brand-new one being added to the lineup this summer that is sure to make your face and your belly smile! From the same good people that brought us the Lobster Clam Jam last month, along with Strangers in the Night, comes the first-ever BARBECUE BONANZA, happening at yet another one of the city's most iconic locations.

Raising money for the Quebec Starlight Children's Foundation, the Barbecue Bonanza will bring together some 26 Montreal restaurants to showcase the best in various cuisines from around the world. The outdoor grilling festival will feature plenty of fun in the sun, entertainment for all ages, and of course, amazing food! Not just for meat lovers either, as participating restaurants will also offer a smorgasbord of grilled, roasted and smoked fish, cheese, and vegetables to devour as well.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Fringe Park, along with that Yelp is holding it's 5th annual Yelp Helps Party in the Park! That means 2 things: FREE drinks and FREE food! And I'm not talking about tiny food samples and soft drinks, there will be FREE McAuslan beer, FREE Barefoot wine and a FREE Thai BBQ.

The only catch is once you get to the event, you have to download the Yelp app if you don't have it already and use it to check-in to the Yelp Helps Party with the Montreal Fringe Festival event. Not a bad trade-off if you ask me.
