A recent shooting in Montreal's Old Port, which left five people, including an SPVM officer, wounded, has drawn the concerns of city hall. On Sunday, September 13, a 33-year-old man fired shots at approaching police officers near the Quai de l'Horloge. In a statement released Monday, Mayor Valérie Plante said she is "concerned" by the recent violent crime in Montreal and wants to reassure the public that the city is taking steps to address it.

"The events of recent days involving firearms are worrying, but I want to reassure Montrealers: we are taking the situation very seriously and are implementing a whole series of actions to stem the problem of violent crime," said Mayor Plante.
