bohemian decor & live piano music, for breakfast & fine grilled cheeses.
This daytime cafe plays live piano music while you enjoy your fancy AF grilled cheese over some bohemian decor. Everyone loves their grilled cheeses that are served with a mini fruit bowl or salad! But what you have to try is their Debile Emmental. It comes with sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus, cheese and ham.
This little cafe in the plateau has amazing coffee, but they have even better grilled cheese, earning them their title of “grillcheeserie”. Both the Gruyere and Onion and the Bacon and Cheddar are absolute must haves that will make your heart melt cheesy goodness!
One of Montreal’s favorite food trucks, Le Cheese has perfected the grilled cheese dish. Their grilled cheeses are truly out of this world! Thankfully, Le Cheese opened a restaurant this past summer, so now you can get your cheese fill year round.
Naturally, since this dish is quite possibly the world's greatest invention, Montreal's L'Gros Luxe (3807 Rue Saint-André | Multiple locations) has been dedicating an entire month to the grilled cheese for the past couple of years. And this year is no different.
All the details have yet to be released, but considering L'Gros Lux is known for its seriously tasty dishes - like the poutine grilled cheese, for example - I, for one, cannot wait to see what they have in store.
Friends, I don't know if there's such a thing as the world's most perfect food, but if there was, it would totally be macaroni and cheese.
Not only does it feature pretty much the two best ingredients in the world - cheese and pasta, let's not kid ourselves - but it's also the perfect base. Although it's incredibly gooey and tasty on its own, you can dress up mac and cheese pretty much however you want and create something on a whole other level of complete awesome.
And even though we do have a lot of delicious mac and cheese options in Montreal, it's always amazing to have even more tasty choices. Enter Macbar Et Fromage.
Macbar Et Fromage (1345 Rue Ontario Est) specializes in one thing: macaroni and cheese. Their menu also features other delicious comfort food fare, like grilled cheeses (!), burgers, and pasta, but the star of the show here is clearly their mac and cheese dishes.
They offer about 11 different sorts of mac and cheese, including a classic dish, with Quebec cheddar cheese, their "Lisboa", with cheddar cheese, chorizo, red peppers, and caramelized onions.
True talk: Grilled cheese is life. It's hot, buttery, grilled, melty... basically, there's nothing bad about a grilled cheese. It's all pure, cheesy love.
And, when something's this good, it feels kind of insulting to not celebrate it in the best way Montreal knows how: By throwing it a festival. That's right, friends.
The second annual Grilled Cheese Festival will feature about 100 Quebec restaurants and takes place throughout Quebec this April 29 - May 8 2016. Which of course, includes a bunch of awesome eateries from Montreal.
Although the full list of all participating restaurants isn't out just yet,RestoMontreal has released this list of participating Montreal restaurants so far:
If you've fallen in love with this event (and it's okay to admit that you have), then don't forget to follow the Grilled Cheese Festival on Facebook, and check out their event page for updates.
You will thank God extra hard it's Friday this week because tonight is the food event/competition you've been waiting all your life for. Actually though, because we've all dreamed of being able to eat unlimited grilled cheese, and Le Cheese is giving you that chance with their first All-You-Can-Eat Grilled Cheese Competition.
All the cheesiness will go down at the Le Cheese Casse Croute resto in NDG (map) with everyone invited to partake in the eat-off. You will have to register (do so here) but whether you're planning on competing or just spectating in the grilled cheese throwdown, here's the basic breakdown of the event:
Time & Date: Friday, January 30th from 9pm to 12 am
Round One: Eat 20 grilled cheese as fast as you can scarf them down. Only three eaters will move on to the final round.
Break: 30 minutes to rest your jaws and belly and prepare for the final.
Final Round: Eat as many grilled cheeses as you can in one minute. Winner is crowned grilled cheese champion of Montreal.
Winning the title of GC-queen/king is truly incentive enough to enter the contest, but the grand prize will make sure you don't pass up the competition. First place winner gets an unlimited summer grilled cheese pass to Le Cheese, meaning you can get a free grilled cheese every single day of the city's greatest season, thus making it even better. Life will be perfect.
Get all the details and register for the event by heading to the official event listing here. Be prepared to get cheese'd people.
Each and every time you enjoy the heavenly gustatory pleasure of an ooey-gooy grilled cheese, you think to yourself: "God, I can eat these forever." Unfortunately, you always run out of cheese and bread before your stomach runs out of room, so you can never make that dream a reality. Next week, you can.
Next Thursday, January 29th, the true grilled cheese lovers will be separated from the basic GC bitches at the Le Cheese's first-ever All-You-Can-Eat Grilled Cheese Competition. Yes, you heard that right, a competition all based on eating grilled cheese. Let that sink in.
Both speed and constitution will be essential to winning this cheesy competition, which is seperated into 2 rounds. The first is all about how fast you can eat 20 grilled cheeses (softies can tap out) and the 3 fastest will move on to the one minute lightning round, after a 30 minute break.
Eating all polite-like will not help you win this grilled cheese battle, so scarf 'em down any way you like. There may not even be time to dip your grilled cheese in ketchup.
Le Cheese Casse Croute (map) will be the stadium for this food event/city-wide cheese duel. An entrance fee is required for participants, but even aside from the prizes, the chance to be crowned grilled cheese champion of Montreal is worth any price at all.
Oh, and lets not forget the 1st place prize: a Grilled Cheese Summer Pass to Le Cheese truck. Eat all the grilled cheese you can so you can eat grilled cheese all summer long for free. Such a beautiful cycle.
The Le Cheese All-You-Can-Eat Grilled CheeseCompetition is going to get super cheesy on Thursday, January 29th from 9pm to midnight. Get all the details by heading to the official event listing here.
It is mothertrucking cold outside, oh, and icy, if you haven't noticed. On days like today, nothing can beat the subzero blues, not even food. Hot chocolate barely warms you, bowls of soup don't fill your frigid belly, and even the most comforting of dishes can't lift your spirit to higher temperatures. So instead of one comfort food, fuse two to get the job done and make the Fried Chicken & Waffle Grilled Cheese by TasteSpotting.
Where one food fails, two will surely get the job done, because the double-blast of tastiness will light your mouth up with flavour. Let's not forget to mention how the gooey cheese and grilled exterior will be certain to elevate your body temperature with unadulterated good feels, and actual warmth, of course.
A pretty simple piece of culinary genius to create, the Fried Chicken & Waffle Grilled Cheese comes together pretty quickly, as long as you have the ingredients on-hand. Just slap some cheese and fried chicken between two waffles and get grilling. If you ever have leftoever fried chicken and waffles from brunch, this is pretty much what you need to make for yourself for lunch/dinner.
Feast your eyes on the Fried Chicken & Waffle Grilled Cheese below, and check out the full recipe here.
Every once in while, when you think that classics can't get any better, a new foodgasm comes at you to make your taste-buds explode with gustatory anticipation. Enter Thrillist'sBacon-Jalapeño Tater Tot Grilled Cheese. And the best part is, you can make it at home, provided you have a waffle-iron mind you.
Combining the comforting goo factor of a grilled cheese, the mouth stimulation of crispy bacon and jalapeno, all sandwiched together between two tater tot waffles is essentially the food of the gods. This is one grill cheese you want in and around your mouth asap.
Ingredients:
1 bag frozen tater tots
1/2 teaspoon salt
4-6 slices bacon
1 large jalapeño, de-seeded and coarsely chopped
8 slices sharp cheddar cheese
Directions:
Preheat waffle iron to max setting
In a large microwave-safe bowl, nuke the taters for a few minutes
Then spread half of the tater tots generously in a even layer on waffle-iron, sprinkle with salt, and close for about 8-10 minutes, or until nice and crispy
Transfer tater tot waffle to wire rack and use the rest of the taters to make a second waffle
Meanwhile, crisp up the bacon in a pan, then remove and cook jalapeño for 2 minutes in rendered bacon fat
With the second tater waffle still in the iron, layer half the cheese, then the bacon and jalapeño, and top with a remaining layer of cheese
Gently press down lid until cheese melts
Cut in four pieces and eat with reckless abandon
It's probably not how to celebrate your 3-monthiversary with your SO, but as a late-night snack-attack satisfier when you find yourself desperately alone and in your undies, this should fit the bill nicely.
Yesterday was the first day of Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights that coincides with Christmas time. Xmas-eats tend to get the the most attention during the holiday eating season, but Hannukah has more than a few decadent treats that give anything Xmas-y a run for their money. Case in point: Grilled Cheese Latkes, by Kosher in the Kitchen.
Latkes, for any unfamiliar, are essentially just fried potatoe pancakes. Think of latkes like a more legit version of McDonald's hash browns, though if you've actually eaten latkes before you know they're much better. Often paired with sour cream and apple sauce (both are great, trust) the classic Hannukah dish has been made even more comforting and given the grilled cheese treatment.
If you know how to make latkes, recreating them as grilled cheese is just another (and very) simple step. Once you have two latkes in the pan, and they've already been nicely browned, just put some cheese on one, fry for a bit longer, then once the cheese is a bit melty, sandwich the latkes together and keep frying until they're fused by the magic of melted cheese.
Many of you may not know how to make latkes, but trust, they're incredibly easy to prepare. Shredding potato will be the most arduous step, and from there all you do is mix the potato with eggs, flour, some scallion, and seasoning, and you're set. Head to the original recipe here, which breaks down the whole process for you.
Hanukkah ends on December 24th, so you have a full week to enjoy these Grilled Cheese Latkes, though in truth, they will make a delicious snack any time of the year, it's just now you can say you're embracing Jewish food culture as an excuse for making + eating these comforting delights.
Mornings have just become more magical. No one needs to be reminded how comforting a classic grilled cheese can be, though the iconic brunch-star that is Eggs Benedict is too often overlooked as "comfort food." Eggs benny is the most satisfying of morning eats, but when combined with a grilled cheese, breakfast-comfort levels go through the roof.
The Grilled Cheese Eggs Benedict byI Am Food Blog is a breakfast innovation we wish we thought of, because its deliciously simple, yet oh-so-enticing. Making your own isn't really too hard, there's just the extra step of "grilling" your eggs benny in a pan, with some cheese in the mix, obviously.
Key to the grilling process is making sure the inside half of your English muffin (the part with all the little holes) is hitting the pan. Other than that, you can put whatever you like in your Grilled Cheese Eggs Benedict, just make sure cheese (obvi), a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce are all included. The featured recipe included prosciutto, but you can easily vegetarian-ize this dish.
Check out the full recipe for theGrilled Cheese Eggs Benedict here. Feast your eyes in through photos (and .gif) below in the meantime.
