It seems like we report on this every year, but once again, there are definitive plans to extend the Montreal Metro Blue line further east. Minister for Transport and Minister Responsible for the Montreal Region Chantal Rouleau announced a revised plan for five additional metro stations on March 18.

"The blue line will go to Anjou," Rouleau said. "The project has been enhanced to open up an entire population who will now have access to a public transit system worthy of the name."

Over the years there have been several new metro line proposals, many of which were abandoned or postponed indefinitely

There was thered line, the purple line, the blue line extension, and at one point, there was even a white line in the works.

As a Montrealer who has experienced taking the Orange Line and Green Line first hand, I have observed some key diefference between those who ONLY take the Orange or ONLY the Green Line. Based on friends and collegues experiences also, I have composed this list of some funny differences you might have also experienced!

Some days, try as you might, the STM metro network simply pisses you off. Take today, for example, when the Orange line was out of service for hours on end, which no doubt miffed many Montrealers trying to get through the city.

And if you're particularly fed up with all of the service closures and downtime experienced on the STM metro network today, thinking "ugh, this always happens," then you may be somewhat justified, because 2015 was a pretty rough year for delays.

We reported on Friday about Montreal’s new Azur metro Cars going live and even though quite a few of you were skeptical that it would 100% go as planned after many, many delays, today, Sunday February 7th, 2016 they are finally here. Everything worked out perfectly and the STM had the new Azur metro cars out rolling bright and early on the Orange Line this morning. A historic day indeed for the STM, commuters, and the city itself so check out the pictures and videos below of the inaugural rides.

Remember how excited everyone got when the STM + Quebec government announced an extension of the Blue Line, all the way to Anjou? Then, of course, there was the following depressed-state when the duo said the project would be done in the early 2020s, which in Montreal-construction-speak means "when it's done it's done so quit asking."

We may have to wait a while to ride a new part of the metro system, but that doesn't stop us from imagining what the new system will look like. One Montreal redditor (WilliamGamache) posted a hypothetical reconception of Montreal's metro system, with the Blue Line extension included, along with some other beneficial changes.

Montreal's metro stations are works of art. Okay, maybe that statement rings true for some of the more architecturally and aesthetically pleasing stations, but no one can deny the unique vibe inherent to each and every metro stop. Montreal artist Gregory Taillon recognizes the beauty of the city's metro stations, and decided to create his own artistic ode to the stations he adores.

68 stations make up Montreal's metro system and Taillon has created a banner for every single one. Taillon's banners reflect the distinct features of every station, and even without the name included, you could probably tell which stop is which solely by looking at the picture.

We got a glimmer of metro-hope yesterday with the AMT's renewed initiative to to extending the blue, yellow, and orange lines. Even with these yet-to-be-seen additions, some Montrealers would still be screwed over, with no metro line planned to extend to the northern parts of Montreal's West Island.

The solution: a red line to the West Island.

It's been a long time in the works, but Montreal's metro system may finally get some extensions/new stations on existing lines, after a bunch of research and studies are performed, of course. Nothing good comes easy.

L’Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) has been reported to be looking into the creation of new stations on the blue, orange, and yellow lines. Back in 2009, an office was created solely for this purpose, and five-ish years later, the initiative is finally re-gaining some steam with funding given to a new analysis on the logistics of extending the metro system.

There's something oddly soothing about riding the metro. Okay, maybe not so much during rush hour, but when you can actually get a seat or comfortably post up, the metro can be a very zen space. The whir of the wheels, the all-too-familiar metro voice, and the opening/closing of the doors create a soundscape familiar and comforting to every Montrealer.

Now you can have all the audio-ambiance of the metro system, wherever you are, thanks to William Gamache. Electronically compiling the many sounds of the STM metro, Gamache has created two videos that will take you through the orange and green line, from start to finish.
