It's been a good few weeks for Quebec NHL player Nicolas Aubé-Kubel, who won (and dropped) the Stanley Cup, presumably did some extended subsequent celebrating, and then capped it off by proposing to his girlfriend against a backdrop of 4th-of-July fireworks.

Aubé-Kubel shared the news via an appropriately memorable Instagram post, in which the first photo shows him on one knee in front of his girlfriend, Madison Fidler, backlit by exploding fireworks. (The second photo shows the couple kissing, so presumably Fidler said yes.)

The Colorado Avalanche clinched the Stanley Cup finals on Sunday night, defeating defending champions the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 5. Naturally, the team — including Quebec's own Nicolas AubĂ©-Kubel — was overjoyed.

Aubé-Kubel had the honour of parading the famed trophy around the ice as the team gathered for a group photo. But it appears his excitement got the better of him.

Last night something remarkable happened! For Montreal's 375th birthday, seven habs players surprised children in Verdun! Nathan Beaulieu, Andrew Shaw, Paul Byron, Max Pacioretty, David Desharnais, Philip Danault and Shea Weber decided to take kids who play hockey in alleys to an outdoor rink for some one-on-ones and games.

It was absolutely a fabulous idea that truly brought our Habs spirits up for the rest of the season and the future Stanley Cup! Kids of all ages were surprised and asked to join in on all the fun! I can only imagine the smiles on their faces.

The Canadian Press is reporting that young hockey players from Williams Lake, B.C., can thank Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price for donating some much needed all-new hockey equipment.

Price teamed up with his gear sponsor, CCM, to give away many boxes filled with equipment to a couple non-profit organisations as well as the Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association, which is the league where it all began for him.

Last night was a thing of beauty, considering the Montreal Canadiens won their home opener as well as their record breaking 5th straight win to start a season and to top it all off the "possible" next Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau showed up to McLean's Pub on Peel street to watch the Habs game, drink beer and take photos with fans.
