As a teenager, I spent what little money I made on going out and updating my wardrobe. I wasn't very financially literate and honestly didn't think I had any financial power.

Of course, I knew the basic concepts: saving, over-indebtedness and interest, but I didn't know the impact they could have on my wallet.

According to a belairdirect survey shared with MTL Blog, Quebecers are more optimistic and are more likely to take action on their goals compared to people in other provinces. 

"In a context where Quebecers are beginning to regain a glimmer of hope and normalcy, many are naturally thinking again about achieving their goals, dreams and aspirations," a spokesperson said.

Data from Statistics Canada on the country's queer community revealed that as of 2018, there were approximately one million LGBTQ2S+ people in Canada.

Canada's statistical agency released the data on June 16 to create a "portrait" of the "demographic and social profile of Canada's diverse LGBTQ2+ communities" — however, much of the data "[focuses] on LGB Canadians (lesbian, gay, bisexual), since Statistics Canada has been collecting detailed information on these communities since 2003."

As COVID-19 vaccination ramps up in Quebec, watch out for scams. According to the provincial government and Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC), fraudsters are calling people up to offer vaccines for a fee — and nothing about it is legit.  

The CAFC told MTL Blog that between September 2020 — prior to the COVID-19 vaccine rollout in Canada — and January 2021, it received reports of fraud calls offering "vaccine kits," "vaccine sign-up links" and scam-artists posing as the World Health Organization.

You're not the only one dreaming of buying right now. A new report from Royal LePage shows that millennials have been jumping at the chance to purchase homes for sale in Quebec in the last year. Even more plan to do so in the near future.

In a survey conducted by the company, 50% of Quebec respondents between the ages of 25 and 35 said they own their own home. A whopping 28% of Montrealers in that group said that they "have purchased a home since the onset of the pandemic."

A new poll on behalf of the Quebec Student Union found that 81% of Quebec university students experienced high levels of "psychological distress" and struggled with mental health in fall 2020.

Marketing firm Léger surveyed 1,209 members of the province's university student community to "paint the most complete possible picture of the state of student psychological health" during the fall 2020 semester, according to a statement released by the Union on February 10.

A new survey by Montreal marketing firm Leger found that three out of four Quebecers — 74% — support the government's night-time curfew in Quebec.

Fewer — 57% of Quebecers surveyed — believed curfew is "an effective way to reduce the spread of the virus," while 32% doubted the curfew's effectiveness.
