The day is approaching. Two days away to be exact. Shoeboxes are being opened and closed, pairs of sneakers inspected thoroughly, some will get a fresh clean up and some will be fresh on the foot. Maybe a shopping spree or some wheeling and dealing to make sure the feet are packing heat. Lots of deep contemplation will be going through the heads of the masses in the Montreal Sneakerhead community. And this is just what to wear Saturday night!
Where? The inaugural MTL Sneaker Awards, that’s where! Being held at Encachette Speakeasy (located at 1765 St.Denis, Montreal QC) and hosted by a collection of well-respected Sneakerheads and sponsored by the likes of Montreal’s own one stop spot for big releases and overall great gear, Exclucity.
At the heart of the MTL Sneaker Awards is a good cause. Dans La Rue, a charity for homeless and at risk youth, will be receiving all profits from the $10.00 cover charge.
The Resellers’ Market will be opening at 6 P.M, giving resellers the chance to…resell. There will also be people willing to swap kicks, which is always a good way to obtain a desired pair of footwear.
A raffle will also be held for everyone in attendance who wishes to purchase a ticket, again with the profits going to Dans La Rue. Footlocker, Ogilvy and Sam Tabak are some of the fine establishments to donate gift certificates to the event.
The toughest job has been that of the judges’ panel deciding on the near 2 thousand pictures submitted through Instagram which are worthy nominees and potential winners (@mtlsneakerawards, #mtlsneakerawards). It would have been an easier process if the Sneakerhead community wasn’t as passionate, and more importantly as creative, as they so proudly are. Instagram filters, additional photo apps and of course wearing heat doesn’t hurt either.
Enough with the chit-chat, here are the nominees and their respected categories (Note nominees are presented with their Instragram handle):
