Brooke Lynn Hytes has risen above all the hate.
The Government Of Canada Tweeted Its Support For A Canadian Drag Queen On "Rupaul's Drag Race" And The Right Wing Is Losing It

If you love Drag Race then you likely already know that Canada's very own Brooke Lynn Hytes will be the first Canadian queen to hit the runway and lipsync for her life.

However, it's clear we have some converting to do still... because a lot of the comments on the tweet sent out by Canada's official twitter were... a little less than kind.

TL;DR The first drag queen from Canada will compete on the next season of RuPaul's Drag Race. After the @Canada Twitter account tweeted the government's support, many Canadians had something to say about drag, Trudeau, and the taxpayers cost for running a Twitter account... y'know, the usual. See the reactions below.

The tweet in question was sent out by the @Canada Twitter account in support of the local queen:

#Shoutout to Toronto-born Brooke Lynn Hytes, who will be the first 🇨🇦 to compete on the Emmy Award-winning show, RuPaul’s Drag Race! Canada is behind you as strut your way towards becoming one fierce superstar! 📷rupaulsdragrace/IG pic.twitter.com/9gqVUzxjdR

Some of the responses were, of course, very positive. Many people are beyond excited to see the first Canadian on Drag Race.

People in the States were even getting a little jealous of the @Canada Twitter account for being so supportive.

Why is Canada so iconic 😭 I wanna live there pic.twitter.com/XY6BC7HlIV

February 10, 2019

The tweet got so much attention that even Brooke Lynn responded.

At first, it seemed there were only positive vibes going around.

I’m stanning @Canada so hard right now. Call me Stanada. Also this tweet has 10x the likes of any other recent tweet. Book her!

When your country tweets about you 😂🙌🏻😩👋🏻

But of course, where there is light and positivity, there is darkness and negativity, and soon the backlash began...

One of the first people to speak out was Maxime Bernier, MP of the Beauce riding in Quebec, the riding with the "highest percentage of White Caucasians" and "people who answered 'Canadian' as their ethnic origin" based on data from the 2006 Canadian census

Government-sponsored leftist logic:

❌ Wearing clothes from another ethnic group
❌ White with dreadlocks
❌ Blackface
❌ Men building pipelines
= cultural appropriation, racism, toxic masculinity

✅ Men wearing female dress and makeup
= diversity 🌈 https://t.co/xINlGwZnQe

February 12, 2019

If its hateful to put polish on your face and do blackface or not ok to wear certain outfits on Halloween or act a certain way if you're not black, why is it ok for a man to dress like a female and vice versa? What if drag queens offend women but they are silenced by laws?

February 10, 2019

Where cultural appropriation and and blackface make a mockery of cultural and ethnic minorities, drag celebrates diversity.

Drag gives us the opportunity to see ourselves in others and to celebrate the differences between us. It is a performance that celebrates gender in all its beautiful variety.

Don’t speak for me! I still think and speak for myself even though Turdou thinks he can speak for all Canadians.

February 10, 2019

I am embarrassed for Canada Trudeau has ruined it.

February 12, 2019

A lot of people seemed ready to blame Trudeau specifically, as if he has something to do with the Drag Race choice or the tweet itself.

Honestly, all this talk of Trudeau just makes me want to see him in drag........ I feel like we all know already that he would be fierce.

THIS is important news from the Govn’t of Canada huh ? No wonder the country is doomed under Trudeau.

February 10, 2019

This man does not represent Canada- this man represents himself. Is this suppose to be impressive or an accomplishment?? Truth does not care about your feelings- poor Justin gov: so incompetent.

February 12, 2019

Other people perhaps just didn't appreciate the @Canada Twitter being so openly accepting and supportive of a Canadian competitor?

I see this as no different from supporting athletes who are abroad competing in tournaments. These drag queens work extremely hard, often sew their own costumes while preparing for acting and dancing challenges, do their own hair and their own makeup. Tell me again you aren't impressed.

“Canada is behind you”.....Don’t speak for me!!!!

February 10, 2019

Yeah this ain’t it

February 11, 2019

Maybe @Canada should speak for you, until you learn to respect those who are definitively more fierce than you.

Wow, how special, who cares🙄

February 12, 2019

Like, I guess you don't have to care but also...  if your country is tweeting about it... maybe it's fair to consider that as national homework? Get to it.

I think it was also clear that some people were just there to troll...

Cultural appropriation!!

February 12, 2019

I think the Govt of Canada under the @liberal_party has far bigger things to focus on (ie corruption) than tweeting about objectively disordered Canadians.

How gross.

February 11, 2019

Or at the very least, they don't care at all and just want to make a fuss because they don't like Trudeau/the Liberal Party/the colour yellow/who knows.

Honestly, a little Drag Race in their lives would probably really help bring some light and positivity their way.

So wrong on many levels

February 10, 2019

Another example of why Canada is such a failure.

February 12, 2019

Don't read our Canadian girl already, she hasn't even competed yet!

I just feel bad that none of these people has the joy of Drag Race in their lives...

This account shouldn’t exist. Waste of tax dollars.

February 10, 2019

Really? I watch the show with my missus, but really? This is our tax dollars at work. What does a federal employee make to thumb out Tweets?

February 10, 2019

I'm not sure why people are so hung up on how expensive it is to run a Twitter account... cause we all know it's some university grad student, right?

We only have one thing to say to all the haters who don't have all the love and support in the world for Brooke Lynn and the @Canada Twitter team:

pic.twitter.com/uDhGApxonS

February 12, 2019

And as RuPaul always says: "If you can't love yourself, how in the hell are you going to love anyone else?"

So, if you're out there hating on Brooke Lynn, or the magnificent gay intern who works for the @Canada Twitter, or anyone for that matter.... stop.

Try and love yourself a little more, and soon you'll realize how much nicer it is to love than to hate.
