Neither Montreal drivers nor pedestrians are well known for their safety habits. Rather, both groups are fairly brazen when it comes to bending/braking safety rules.

Unfortunately, that leads to dangerous situations, or in other words, accidents. But unlike drivers, pedestrians aren't protected by layers of metal or airbags. And in many cases, pedestrians are wounded, or killed.

In response to the recent deaths of four pedestrians in Montreal, Radio-Canada delved into the rate at which accidents occur in Montreal's streets.

Analyzing the where, when, and how of the 4700 accidents that occurred in Montreal from 2011 to 2015, Radio-Canada was able to determine the "problem areas" in the city.

Listed on an interactive map (check it out here) that highlights where accidents occurred, several locations stood out as the most dangerous intersections in Montreal. Essentially, these are the spots in which the most amount of accidents occurred.

Unsurprisingly, the area in which the most accidents happen is downtown Montreal, with the Concordia area being particularly problematic. Also not-quite-a-surprise is the fact that accidents are more likely to occur during the winter months, when roads are far more treacherous to traverse.

But despite the recent incidents that have put pedestrians in peril, the overall amount of pedestrian-related accidents have actually dropped; from 2011 to 2014, the amount of accidents in which pedestrians were involved went down by 20%.
