On Tuesday, April 7 that the so-called "pink supermoon" lit up skies around the world. The full moon of April is up to 30% brighter and appears 7% to 14% bigger than usual because of its proximity to the earth. Its appearance heralds the arrival of springtime weather.

Residents of Quebec were able to admire it best around 10:35 p.m. when it reached its luminous peak.

The pink moon, which occurs annually around the spring equinox, is named after the cherry blossoms that appear in areas around the world at this time of year.

Its size is splendid, but it's not necessarily pink in colour.

Photographers across Quebec were nevertheless ready to capture the event on camera, some even got crafty with their lenses and positions to give the moon different hues.

Quebec photographer Fabien and his companion Filby travelled to Lavaltrie on the shores of the St. Lawrence River to take these magnificent pictures.

The pink moon made for a great backdrop.

The moon was even bright enough for Montrealers to get a good view through the urban light pollution.

Distorted and coloured by the atmosphere, the moon did appear pink at its rising in some places.

These photos best demonstrate the intensity of its light, which shined brighter than street and building lamps.

It was unmissable in the Montreal evening sky.

It also cast an eerie glow on some structures.

It was impressive with both distant and magnified views.
