Budget cuts mean more waiting for bus riders.
The STM Is In Debt, Which Means Shittier Bus & Metro Service For Montreal

Montreal's transit service, the STM, is in the hole $20 million. To compensate the deficit in budget, these bus and metro services will be changed:

  • Reduced cleaning in metro stations
  • Cut back on sponsorship and promotion
  • Reduced bus services by 3.1% (rush hour service unaffected)

So if you're taking a bus on the weekends or outside of peak hours, then you better be prepped to wait a few more minutes. That is, of course, if the bus isn't already late, which isn't exactly unheard of in Montreal.

Cutbacks are due to the STM only getting $12.5 million from the city, in the newly released municipal budget, which is enough (thank God) to keep tickets the same price.

Should the city of Montreal have given more money to a service so many residents use daily?
