If you live in Montreal then you know that as soon as the weather starts to get the slightest bit warm all the restaurants start to set up their terrasses. In Montreal, we love our terrasses. They define our city and our summers. They're just awesome, okay?
It's hard to know where to go sometimes. For real, it seems like there's a terrasse on every corner. And it takes more than just have tables and chairs outside to reeeeally call yourself a terrasse.
There are good terrasses and then there are a great terrasses. This is the ultimate guide to terrasses in Montreal. Trust me, you are going to need this for this summer. P.S: the list gets better as it goes on.
This place seriously has one of the nicest terrasses in the city and it's the perfect place for a night out with your friends. They've got sensational cocktails at this "easygoing" bar and you are going to love enjoying them outdoors on their patio. And on special nights, you'll be able to see DJs and even enjoy hilarious comedians.
You've probably already spotted this place because of their iconic pig statue outside the front. But it's also an epic terrasse spot! They make seasonal foods exclusively from the Quebec region. How awesome is that? Their beautiful courtyard just opened for the season so you've got to check it out! Just look up and you can see the stars. It's pretty magical. If you've got a big group, order their 6-course meal and trust me, you won't regret it.
This historic restaurant definitely hasn't let itself fall prey to the times. They had to modernize someway to keep everyone interested. And what better way to do that than to get a terrasse. I can tell you right now that this is the ultimate way to make people flutter to your restaurant. Not that they need it. Their DELICIOUS French-themed cuisine is refined and will make you come back for more.
Now this place seriously has a view unlike any other. This is definitely one of the most beautiful and scenic places to eat in the city. Why, you ask? Well, because you get a view of the entire city! That's right, this restaurant is actually located on the top floor of a skyscraper, so you'll be able to look down on all of Montreal as you enjoy your scrumptious meal. You really can't get any better than that.
26. Boris Bistro
Oh, yeah. When I think terrasse, this place definitely comes to mind. Just look at that beautiful setup. I can picture myself sitting there on a nice sunny day already. 90% of their menu is gluten-free, so there's something to eat for everyone. And did you know that starting on April 1, 2018, they've actually completely banned straws? Hats off to them. That's amazing. I wish more restaurants in Montreal would take this initiative.
This terrasse definitely has something special. It's not just a restaurant where you can get amazing meals until the beautiful sun and enjoy a spectacular view of the Old Port. It's also a club! It just 3 short weeks (yes, unfortunately, you'll need to wait a little bit for this one), you can party it out at this epic terrasse. They've got super cute and delicious drinks that you either sip on at lunch or chug at midnight. Your choice. Either way works here!
I seriously cannot handle how cute this place is! Just scrolling through their Instagram made me forget that I was at work. I could already picture myself snuggling into one of their couches on their terrasse sipping on a drink and taking in all the sun. The clean-cut look and vibrant colors just make this place look super refreshing, modern, and fun! I cannot wait to check it out. And trust me, check out the pictures. You won't be able to wait either.
Uh, oh! Another terrasse nightclub. And this one is on a rooftop! It looks like Terrasse Bonsecours may have some competition. It has amazing views of the Quartier des Spectacles and beautiful downtown Montreal. With all the lights, nighttime in the city is honestly a spectacular sight. With featured DJs from all over the world playing here and a capacity of 100 people, this terrasse is definitely the place to be. Its exclusivity will make you feel extra special, I promise.
I know it seems like there can never be more amazing terrasses in Montreal, but trust me, there are always more. There's always some place that you have yet to discover or one that is about to open. You'll never run out of great places to go. Here's one for example! With gorgeous views of Place Jacques-Cartier, this Old Port terrasse is right along the water. Their menu is super casual, but no less exquisite. With a full menu of microbrews, this terrasse is going to be one of your favorite spots to chill out once the sun is here.
21. Le Saint-Sulpice
I hardly believed my eyes when I saw this one! It definitely has something original going on here. It's actually full of trees and looks like it's part of some forest. And yet, it's in the middle of a city. Color me impressed. Don't forget about this epic fountain! Le Saint-Sulpice definitely needs to make its way onto your summer terrasse bucket list. This cafe-bar has both a front and back terrasse, so there is tons of room for everyone. Did I mention that it's HUGE?
Not only is this place super fun to say (come on, you know you want to. Just say Barraca! Barraca!), but it's also just super fun! Their narrow tavern-style location leads to a super peaceful terrasse. If you're interested to try out some Spanish wines and imported beers, then this is the place for you. The art and tapas are reason enough to come check out this restaurant. But let's all be honest here, we know you're coming for the terrasse.
Don't worry, this isn't an actual lab. It's a restaurant. And what's more, it's a restaurant with a terrasse. Yay for terrasses! This is an article about terrasses so obviously I had to put a photo of their outdoor seating, but honestly, I wanted to put one of their food. Trust me, it looks really sensational. You have got to try it out. And what's better is that you'll be able to enjoy it with the sun on your face. It can't get any better. Unless it was free. Sorry, it's not free.
You can never have too many restaurants with terrasses in the Old Port. In my opinion, it's probably the most beautiful of Montreal. The cobblestone streets, the view of the water. It's the ultimate summer hangout spot. Now imagine if you didn't have to go inside and leave the beauty while you're eating. That's the beauty of a terrasse. Scena is no different, except for the fact that it's the official bistro of the Quais du Vieux-Port.
This restaurant's secret terrasse has captured the heart's of Montrealers since it opened. It's seriously beautiful. Just look at those lampposts. I can't quite put that vibe into words, but it's one that just makes you feel good and excited for life (and to eat). They were going for a European vibe when they designed their terrasse and honestly, I see it. I feel that. And I am here for it. I seriously recommend you make this your next date spot. They have great drinks and am ambiance that cannot be recreated.
Want a beautiful view of the Old Port, the St-Lawrence Riber and St-Paul street all at once? Check out this sensational restaurant. If you're interested in Montreal's historic district (which you should be, it's beautiful), then this is the place for you. You'll also get a great view of the Jacques Cartier Bridge, which is gorgeous when it's all lit up. It can accommodate up to 100 people on their terrasse! So if you want a great place to see the sunset and even the Montreal fireworks, this is THE PLACE.
15. Bistro Le Valois
This delicious bistro is located just 10 minutes away from downtown Montreal in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district. So, you know you're going to have a great night if you check them out. Their art-deco touch will create a great ambiance for your meal. Trust me, they were inspired by all things French so you are in for a romantic evening. They're known for their foie gras, well-seasoned tartar, and smoked fishes. How good does that sound? Enjoy these delicious meals on their beautiful terrasse and get the most of your night.
They've got a bar, a wine list, and brunch. What more do you want? Oh, a terrasse? Yeah, well they have that too. Founded in 1979 by the family of Aurette Heureux, this place actually started off as a cafe. They've worked really hard to maintain their bohemian and chill spirit, and as you can see by their beautiful plant-covered terrasse, they have succeeded.
13. Cafe Santropol
This is by-far one of my favorite places in all of Montreal. The atmosphere here is just SO relaxing and fun, you'll feel like you're in another world. In the colder seasons, you can be thrilled the enjoy their cutesy indoor cafe setting, but when the sun comes out, that's when the Santropol can really shine. Their outdoor terrasse is absolutely gorgeous! And if you love animals, this is also a great place for you. There is always a little kitty walking around. Their gardens, the lights, the beautiful Mont-Royal air just makes this place magical. Did I mention their food is to die for? I've said too much. You need to check it out yourself.
This is definitely a more fancy place if you're looking to eat on a terrasse. I was actually turned away once because I wasn't dressed to par (I'm only slightly bitter about it), so this is a place for a fancier evening. They serve modern, Asian-inspired food like seafood and dumpings. And of course, they've got a full bar and a beautiful decor. I definitely want to go back one day in the proper attire so that I can have the change to enjoy their food and ambiance because it looks awesome.
Want to enjoy a boozy brunch under the beautiful morning sun? Well, this is the perfect place for that. Once the weather starts to get nice, they open up their terrasse and let me tell you, it looks sensational! They use ingredients imported from Italy, so you know that it's good stuff. This place actually doubles as a market where you can find awesome homemade sauces and imported products.
10. Eva B
It always surprises me when people say they haven't heard of Eva B. This place is seriously awesome. It's a thrift store, first and foremost, but it doubles as a cafe and it actually has a hidden terrasse in the back. This is one of the most chill places in Montreal. You can do some awesome thrifting and then kick back and relax with a meal. It's all mixed up in the same building so it's a bit of a maze but trust me, you are going to love it! I do.
Since 1967, this place has been an ideal place to stay in Montreal. Not only is it a terrasse but it's a hotel. So if you're from out of town, or if you just feel like being pampered for a night, then staying at this place is a must-do. Imagine eating on a terrasse for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. That sounds like a dream come true to me. And it's right near the observatory so that sounds like an outing that needs to happen if you ask me.
8. Le Warehouse
Every student seriously needs to know about this place. It's freaking amazing. First of all, it's located right smack in the middle of Crescent street. Imagine sitting out there eating dinner, and being able to scope out all the bars you're going to hit after you're finishing eating. Also, you don't even have to, because Le Warehouse has aweeeesome drinks. What really makes this place special is their super cheap menu! Everything only costs $5! That's right, only $5. And the portions aren't tiny either. They're actually reasonable. You need to go here right now.
This place is the ultimate party destination. If you skim through their Instagram all you're going to see is people partying. Isn't that what you want? I know it is. School is almost over and you just want to get day drunk and chill in the sun. I know, me too. Though they're open every day of the year, terrasse season just gives it that extra something special. Being able to be outside just makes everything better if you ask me.
I cannot praise this place enough. If I could write about it every single day I would. Their pizza is just off the charts. And there is nothing better than sitting outside, a glass of sangria in hand and enjoying an amazing lunch. And they take their terrasse seriously. This one time, I was sitting out there and it started pouring rain, like really hard. And they just popped this crank out of nowhere and brought out a roof. It was awesome! I didn't get a drop on me. And I was still able to enjoy my delicious pizza outside. I love them. That is all.
This place's 5 à 7 is reason enough to check them out. I can't think of anything better than sitting in the sun, super tipsy. I don't know what it is about drinking in the sun, it just makes you feel amazing. Being inside when it's hot is just stuffy and unnecessary. Thank goodness for terrasses. We can still enjoy the weather but be so much more comfortable. Terrasses are just refreshing as hell!
Steak lovers already know about this place. But do terrasse lovers? Well, you do now. They've got great quality cuts that they've been making since 1983. Their atmosphere is super welcome and honestly, you can't go wrong with a good, classic steakhouse. They can hold up to 1,000 people so if you feel like inviting everyone you've ever met, you actually can. Everyone will want to enjoy their beautiful terrasse and delicious menu, so why not?
3. Bar Plan-B
I can't quite explain what's so amazing about sitting at the edge of a street and hearing the cars drive by. Summer air helps everything if I'm honest. It's just that being outside when the weather is beautiful makes everything more enjoyable. Thank goodness that winter is gone. Not only do they have tables out front, but they've got a great hidden terrasse in the back if nighttime traffic isn't your thing.
I think we can all guess what we serve here, can't we? Delicious meats and wine. Sounds pretty good to me. And add a terrasse in there, it's even better. This restaurant can be found in the heart of Griffintown. It has a super comfortable and vintage design. Their glass and metal decor is super nice to look at. It looks like a great spot for nightlife and a date. I personally really want to check it out and not only because they have a terrasse (but mainly because they do).
This restaurant has literally everything you could ever ask for. I'm surprised I've never been before. But now that I know about it, you can bet that I'll be checking this place out really soon. So, for starters, it has a terrasse. That's already a huge plus. But it also services delicious Greek food that will make your mouth water just from looking at the photos. They have charbroiled meats and even pizza! Now, if you don't feel like going down there, they deliver right to your door. And to top it all off, it's a BYOB! I think this may be my new favorite restaurant.
