The Willing & The Picture Show @ Le Saint-Ciboire

Le Saint-Ciboire has been my jewel find of the summer. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by rue St-Denis, which is why it’s nice to find a specific favorite spot every few blocks along or so. It’s got your staple live music bar accoutrements; pool table, hockey always on the big screen, a gorgeous, sprawling terrace (with a muthafuckin fountain! Inorite…)

The real attraction of the place is the caliber of the bands that take the stage. I have yet to be disappointed by any act I have seen there. Their standards of performers are high, and it makes all the difference to have a guy in the back of the hall manning the levels and balance. Tech aside, they also seem to be the only bar around to have a stage big enough for a four piece band to rock out on! Both bands we saw Sunday night obviously appreciated the space and took up every inch of it with good old fashioned showmanship.

The Picture Show are a four piece band hailing from across Canada, bringing together big city wit with hard Prairie grit. Blake Unruh leads with cool guitar riffs and passionate vocals that somehow you can actually hear he wrote. Joel Massinon is the answer to this t shirt from H&M and doesn’t let you forget about him in the back! Tariq Sattaur’s gorgeous vintage bass kinda smooths the raw edge of their sound & Marc Richard, the newest addition to the former trio, has certainly earned his chops belting out the beauty of the saxophone. His harmony vocals are always fun, but his sax solos and drops bring a sexy metropolitan level to what would otherwise stop at the basic elements of the rock band. Self-reflective, yet unrestrained, The Picture Show seamlessly blend folk, rock and country into smooth eargasm, leaving your soul humming and your ears ringing.

2nd Act

The Willing is just this fruity pop rock extravaganza. Formed in 2013, the band consists of Will Riley (lead vocals) Skeeler McBeeler (Lead Guitar) Paul Col (Bass) and Justin Wiley (drums). The music these four create ranges from sexy air humping funk to pop-rock stompers. With their lead singer Will being their main nucleus gay guy, the sass and spunk is a huge part of the band’s identity. You’ll love their bittersweet upbeat anthems but you’ll be hooked on the playful irony of their lyrics. Will’s song writing style is what brought the group together under one sound to become The Willing. Their name derives from Will’s own celebration of egocentrism, or commentary there on. Their first single Lauren's A Bitch is available to all for free right now.
