Being broke in Montreal this Winter isn’t always a terrible thing. Yes we all wish that we could go on vacation to somewhere hot AF to escape winter, but let’s be honest, who has the money for that anymore! With school fees and those bills that we always need to pay, I know that I don’t have enough money to splurge on a vacation this winter break.

So, for all those fellow broke Montrealer’s, I suggest exploring your city! Montreal has many great activities that you can try this winter to make you feel like you are on vacation. We may not have that tropical beach or exotic forest but we do have other activities that compensate for that.

I suggest checking out some of these ideas I have in store for you. Even if you are broke in Montreal, you can still have a great winter break! I promise you that these activities will make you look at Montreal in a completely new way! So DON’T get packing and DON’T go exchange your money because you will be staying in Montreal this winter.


1. Go To  AeroSim Experience This Winter

Feel like you are taking off to your dream destination by checking out Laval’s flight simulator. AeroSim Experience is a flight stimulator of a boeing 737NG. You are the one taking control against the sky! It’s an amazing experience especially for those who have always dreamed of being a pilot!

2. Go To Igloofest This Winter

That’s because this year, in honor of Montreal’s 375th, Igloofest will be bigger and better than ever.

Right off the bat, this year’s celebration will last 6 whole weeks! that’s 2 weeks longer than usual!

4. Go To Flying Yoga This Winter

It’s official, Montreal has anti-gravity yoga! You heard me! You can now fly through the sky in Montreal at Club Sportif MAA. Some call it aerial yoga or zero gravity yoga but whatever you call it, it’s cool AF! Anti-gravity yoga is a new kind of workout invented by aerial performers. It involves performing a series of exercises inspired by yoga, pilates, and aerial acrobatics for a total-body workout. So book your class ASAP!

5. Go Surfing This Winter

For those who want to feel like they are in California or Hawaii, I suggest trying to surf in Montreal’s St. Lawrence River or at the indoor surfing centre called Brossard’s Oasis Surfing.  At Oasis Surfing, you can enjoy a nice drink, some great food, and a surfing experience that makes you feel like you are in the ocean this winter.

6. Go To The Montreal Museum Of Fine Arts This Winter

7. Go To An Outdoor Winter Spa This Winter

Pretend like you are getting a relaxing massage in Switzerland by heading to one of Montreal’s superb spas. If you want to feel like you are in  secluded space, then I suggest trying Spa Le Finlandais. But if your heart is set on being on a boat, then check out Bota Bota! You get to relax in Montreal and day dream that you are on vacation.

8. Go Skating This Winter

The Old Port skating rink seriously has it all: it’s got romance, fun, decorations, lights, and to top things off, it’s outdoors. It may not be the beach but it sure is fun this winter!

9. Go Walk Through Old Montreal This Winter

Old Montreal is absolutely stunning! Especially in the winter. Old Montreal does this thing where it makes you feel like you are in Europe! So, instead of going to Europe, just pretend! I mean the Notre-Dame Basilica sure makes me feel like I'm back in France!


10. Go To Mont Royal And Watch A Sunset This Winter

Mont Royal is gorgeous during every season! So, pretend like you are watching the sunset over a white snowy beach this winter break!


11. Go To A Fabulous Brunch This Winter

Wake up and pretend that you are in Europe enjoying a classic brunch at some of Montreal's hottest breakfast spots! I suggest checking out Restaurant Holder! They offer a French gourmet brunch and this is the place to be during your winter break! The brunch menu includes fabulous eggs Benedict and much more!

12. Go To Le Ceramic Cafe This Winter

One of my personal favourite places is Le Céramic Café. It's a great place where you can create art, relax, enjoy food, and overall have fun! You can choose whichever mold you like and the fun takes off from there! It's a great way to distract you from being broke and stuck in Montreal this winter.

13. Go To A Fondue Restaurant This Winter

Pretned that you are on a cheese tasting adventure this winter at La Fonderie. This Plateau staple has been in Montreal for decades, and for one very good reason: their fondue is completely out of world. Not only does this spot offer multiple different types of delicious fondues – such as Swiss cheese and Fondue Bourguignonne – but it is a perfect location for a double date since you can share! This is a great way to bond with another couple over melted cheese and finger foods!

14. Go To An Exotic Restaurant This Winter

If you are into trying great food on your trips, then I suggest checking out some of Montreal’s authentic and exotic restaurants. 15. Go To The Botanical Gardens This Winter

The Montreal Botanical Garden is absolutely stunning and the perfect place for a romantic walk this winter. I suggest heading done there sometime during your break where you can walk under the moonlight and in the lighted Chinese village. It is absolutely stunning in the winter and summer!

16. Go To Mont-Tremblant Village This Winter

Enjoy skiing like you are in Switzerland this winter break by heading to Mont-Tremblant Village! It is absolutely stunning in the winter and will blow your mind! It's actually named #13 on the list of the top 25 best ski towns!

18. Go To Hot Yoga This Winter

Another way to sit back and relax this winter is by doing some yoga. Yoga is a great way to relax and release stress. I suggest going to one of Montreal’s many yoga studios. My personal favorite is hot yoga at Ensō where you sweat your stress away and pretend like you are in a rain forest enjoying some good old yoga!
