I don't know about you guys, but to me, there's just something about lilacs that scream Montreal. Not only do they smell - and look - amazing, but they're also kind of a symbol for spring in the city (aka the end of winter/the beginning of pure, seasonal happiness).
Although there are tons of spots to check out Montreal's gorgeous lilac trees, there are certain areas where you're guaranteed to get a good look at these pretty purple flowers - and where you're guaranteed to impress your date, too. Curious as to what I'm talking about? Well, don't worry. I've got your back, friends.
1. Westmount Park
Alright, raise your hand if you've been to Westmount Park. Is your hand raised? If it's not, then TBH, I feel kind of bad for you.
This spot not only has an ace location - right in the heart of Westmount - and a vast expanse of pretty green space (which includes a beautiful pond), but it also just so happens to be one of the best places in the city to go on a lilac-spotting date. With tons of vibrant trees for you and your S/O to admire, theres seriously no way you could go wrong in spending the day at this Westmount park.
2. Montreal Botanical Gardens
At this stage in the game, I'm super sure that you know about the Botanical Gardens. But, honestly, this spot is just too perfect not to write about.
Pretty much heaven for anyone who loves flowers, plants, or nature in general, the Botanical Gardens has got tons of gorgeous tress and flowers for you to check out - including their super pretty lilac trees. Although the Botanical Gardens are beautiful at basically any time of the year, they've got an especially romantic feel around this time of year, perfect for that first (or second, or third) date.
3. Jeanne-Mance Park
Located in Montreal's Plateau, right near the mountain, Jeanne-Mance Park is an awesome spot to chill, have a picnic, or do pretty much anything.
Including take a date, of course; and if you and your date are down to scope out Montreal's beyond gorgeous lilac trees, then this is the spot for you. Bonus points if you're down for a couples' jog, too, since Jeanne-Mance Park is also a fantastic jogging spot.
4. Lachine Canal
5. St. Joseph's Oratory
Montreal's St. Joseph's Oratory is a lot of things: Canada's biggest church, a basilica, a Canadian National Historic Site, and one of the places that Montreal is pretty much well-known for.
But did you know that it's also an awesome spot to check out beautiful, blooming lilac trees? Seriously. The Oratory's outdoor garden is honestly breathtakingly beautiful, and features tons of gorgeous greenery, including a handful of pretty lilac trees. Oh, and for added bonus points, you can make a whole day out of it. Check out the trees; check out the Oratory; enjoy your summer date, it's all good.
6. Jarry Park
Honestly, what's there not to love about Jarry Park? It's legit got everything an awesome park should have - and then some.
Like what, you ask? Like a huge, gorgeous water fountain; a seriously awesome gazebo; a pool; green space... Pretty much anything you could possibly ask for, TBH. Oh, and not to mention their gorgeous lilac trees, blooming pretty much everywhere throughout the park. So, go ahead. Pick a spot, get comfy, and prepare to lilac-gaze with bae.
7. Square Saint-Louis
If you've ever been to Montreal's Prince-Arthur Street, then the chances are very high that you know about Square Saint-Louis. The oasis-like respite is pretty much a gorgeous haven for anyone who's down to take a second to relax in the middle of Montreal's super busy Plateau.
And it also happens to be an awesome spot to peep some seriously gorgeous lilacs. Although the flowers tend to mostly bloom around the perimeter of the park, you can still see some seriously gorgeous blossoms, no matter what vantage point you happen to be taking.
