Tell me, is there really anything better than a summer road trip? Between discovering exciting places, driving with the windows down and the music cranked, and trying new things, road trips are without a doubt where we make some of the best summer memories.
But sometimes, we don't always have a full weekend to devote to our getaways. That's where day trips come in - easy, relatively cheap, and a ton of fun if you're willing to get out of your comfort zone. So put in that little bit of extra effort, wake up early, and head out to make new memories in these 7 amazing places. I promise, you won't regret it.
1. Wallingford-Back Mine (2.5 hours)
More and more people are discovering this hidden gem, and for good reason; go now before it gets too touristy. I really don’t have words to describe how incredible this abandoned mine is - you just have to see it for yourself. And, bonus, there’s a small, private lake nearby where you can cool off after exploring.
2. Parc Omega/Montebello (1 hour)
I know Montebello may seem like a ‘been there, done that’ destination for many Montrealers, and if this is the case for you, then consider a visit just to Parc Omega. A beautiful expanse of nature teeming with incredible wildlife, the Park makes a quick day visit enjoyable, and also has options for longer, more adventurous stays. It's worth going back a second and even third time, just to appreciate the awesome interaction you can get with the animals.
3. Chelsea (2.5 hours)
A hipster-esque town nestled in the Quebec hillside, Chelsea is a perfect getaway if you just want to hang out, eat good food, and enjoy quaint sights. Of course, Chelsea’s greatest attraction is the Nordik Spa, an outdoor paradise that is without a doubt worth the trip.

4. Wakefield (2.5 hours)
Chelsea’s nearby cousin, Wakefield gives off even more of a laid-back hippie vibe, with equally as delicious eateries and places to hangout. A must-see is the red covered bridge, which you can admire from the shoreline below, and take a dip in the river while you’re at it. If you happen to stay for nightfall, definitely grab a drink at the famed Black Sheep Inn - guaranteed something cool will be going on.
5. Lusk Cave, Gatineau Park (3 hours)
While this is the furthest destination on the list, if you’re the adventurous type, it’s a truly unique, exciting day trip. The hike up is gorgeous, and once there, you have the option to take a route through the cave, which you'll have to swim through at parts (bring your headlamp). Better yet, this cave is housed in an amazing section of Gatineau park, with a beach nearby to chill out at after your adventure. Trust me, this experience is worth the drive.
6. Arbraska/Lafleche Park (2.5 hours)
If an aerial adventure through treetops that includes zip lining sounds like your heaven, then please visit Arbraska. It is described as a “tree top challenge game park”, and it’s most definitely worth a day trip to get your adrenaline pumping. They have tons of other activities, including a ‘night trek’, and others that are totally family friendly too.
7. Mont-Saint-Hilaire (45 minutes)
If you don’t have a car, are short on time, or need something a little more budget-friendly, then Mont-Saint-Hilaire is perfect for a day. You can get there by train from the city, and it's easily accessible by vehicle as well. Settled within the mountainous Monteregie region, the town is home to a large nature park and some great hiking trails. There’s also an apple orchard nearby - cue the delicious cider tastings, friends.
