The stoner and American-Canadian 2001 cult classic Super Troopers is finally coming back for a second toke. The second film has been brainstormed since 2009, promised by Broken Lizard to be made in 2012, and now finally received the studio “green light” necessary. We cough a sigh of relief, knowing that the whole Broken Lizard gang will be back, including Brian Cox as Captain O’Hagan, Jay Chandrasekhar as Lieutenant Arcot "Thorny" Ramathorn, and Kevin Heffernan as Farva.
As confirmed on Lizard members Steve Lemme and Kevin Heffernan’s podcast Chewin’ It with Kevin and Steve, “It is happening”. “People ask “ ‘What’s the next movie?’ That’s the next movie”, said Heffernan. “The script is written, the deal has been agreed on…we need to raise the financing. It’s nothing out of the ordinary. The studio is just the distributor and we are the ones who have to bring the money…so it’s a lot of money that we have to raise”.
Although Lizard previously thought about crowd sourcing their film, it seems that they are confident they’ll get the funding, privately, and be filming by summer’s end.
As to the direction of the sequel, nothing has been revealed, though it doesn’t sound like it will pick up where the last movie left off: w/ Thorn and Rabbit going undercover as beer-delivery men to further torment the college kids they’d previously charged with possession, littering, “…and smokin’ the reefer”.
