It's almost time to get folk'd up. Come June 2014, a relatively new staple in the Montreal music festival scene makes its return with, tons of free shows, outdoor events, and waterside chilling to tunes. Montreal's Folk Fest Sur Le Canal is the event in question, and all y'all folks will want to check it out.
The 7th annual Montreal Folk Fest on the Canal starts Wednesday June 18th @ 8pm Georges-Vanier Cultural Centre (2450 Workman) with an opening night gala/wine and cheese (so free booze and food, heyyy) and ends on Sunday June 22nd, with 30+ musical acts performing throughout the 5 day festival.
Mostly outdoors, to capitalize on the beauty of the canal and the summer sun, feel free to bring your own blanket, and with over 15 free outdoor shows, you'll need a comfy spot. A special shaded area will be on-site to those who prefer the shade, and food vendors (like Grumman '78, Lucky's, Zoe's and more) will make sure you don't go hungry.
Festival headliners include Eric Anderson, Patti Griffin, and Notre Dame de Grass, among many others. Even if those names mean nothing to you, the chill vibe of folk music, and the festival itself, is perfect for newcomers to the genre, and besides, who can pass up a mostly-free music festival? Check out all the details in the festival schedule here.
