You might not think of spending your Friday night at a zoo—but what about one with DJs, drinks, live painting, and some of Montreal’s most creative animals?
This Friday night, the MTL ZOO arts collective invites you to walk on the wilder side of art at their latest show at Le Divan Orange. The group of illustrators, painters, sculptors, installation and graffiti artists has promoted the city’s next generation of talent since its founding in 2012. One thing they all have in common? They all know how to party.
“This event is really like a jam. It’s for people to come out and see our latest work, listen to music, watch us paint, and just have a good time,” says Fonki, a Montreal-based artist who co-founded MTL ZOO with animator and artist Olivier Bonnard.
A mash up of artistic disciplines set to the rhythm of Montreal’s nightlife, MTL ZOO promotes its events through local hip-hop media Elementality, and will feature DJs Benny Lava (Illmask Crew) and Positive (M.O.S) at the event. But don’t let the fun mislead you. MTL ZOO is serious about art.
“Our events are a way to bring people together, but also to promote quality work. We want artists to get inspired by each other, and by mixing disciplines, come out of their comfort zone and grow,” says Fonki, whose own love for graffiti and aerosol art has led him to conquer walls from Montreal to Cambodia.
MTL ZOO’s flexible roster makes each event a pleasant surprise. This time, come watch some live painting and see art by Le Bonnard, Antoine Gaumont, Jonathan Robert, Emmanuel Perron, Dare2, Macs Mos, Garbage Beauty, Miss Teri, Bryan Beyung and FONKI.
