What do you think of when you imagine a block party? I'll bet it's like those 90s movies, with a ton of food, music, and dance battles, right?
The tradition of block parties stretches all the way to the 70s, when urban communities in Manhattan and Brooklyn took over the streets to celebrate their culture. Despite being known as a party town, the block party never took off in Montreal like it did in New York.
To remedy that terrible truth, Village au Pied-du-Courant has teamed up with Chocolate Jungle - 90s Jam to bring you the biggest and wildest Brooklyn Block Party Montreal has ever seen!
By now, you should know all about Village au Pied-du-Courant but if you don't, we've got you covered. The project that has been around since 2014 is one of Montreal's top summer attractions.
The Village has reinvented an otherwise drab part of Montreal along the former industrial docks. Renovated every summer, the Village is described as an "urban living lab" that is "dynamic in nature," according to its website.
The Village hosts incredible special events all summer and their Brooklyn Block Party is set to be one of the biggest ones of the year!
For one day only, this FREE event will take over the Village for an all-day and night celebration of hip-hop culture, Caribbean food and dance.
The festivities begin at 5 PM with dance battles from local youth groups out of Montreal. There will also be rap battles and poetry slams happening during the evening as well as a DJ who will close out the night with pulsating urban grooves. You'll also catch the fireworks at 10 PM!
But that's not all! No block party is complete without an amazing selection of Caribbean food and barbeque! There will be local food kiosks and drink stations, as well as food trucks from Winneburger and Dim Sum Montreal.
You can't miss this incredible one-night-only event on July 20th!
If you've always wanted to get down and groove like they do in Brooklyn, you won't want to miss Montreal's own Brooklyn Block Party!
