- Because the famous Montreal Zombie Walk has been cancelled this year, the Montreal Halloween Festival is organizing its own zombie gathering at Place des Arts.
- The "zombie rally" is free to attend, though participants will have to do their own makeup.
- The public is, of course, welcome to attend and try to escape the zombies' grasp.
It was nearly a month ago to the day when the saddest Halloween news broke: there would be no official Marche des Zombies de Montréal for 2019. The Montreal Zombie Walk has taken over rue Sainte-Catherine downtown every October since 2011. For eight years the terrifying undead converged on the streets in a parade from hell, but alas due to "reasons beyond our control" this year's event has been cancelled according to the official Facebook page.
While no reason was given for the sudden cancellation for both the Montreal and Quebec City walks, there are promises that the annual event will be back in 2020. But that still leaves us with one important question: what are the zombies going to do with themselves this year?
Good news has recently come out. The Halloween Festival of Montreal has realized that zombies need a place to hang out, catch up with friends, grab a drink, and a bite of flesh too. With this in mind, they have organized a zombie rally of their own complete with a costume contest.
On Saturday, October 26, zombies of all kinds will have a place to call their very own at the Complexe Desjardins in Place des Arts.
The party starts at 1 p.m. but the costume competition gears up around 2 p.m.
If this is anything like the Zombie Walk from years past, a huge amount of attention and detail go into attendees' costumes. Some of the makeup and designs are worthy of a Hollywood movie.
There's some serious competition but if your costume is deemed worthy. You can win prizes worth $1000.
You will have to handle your makeup on your own this year as there will be no makeup stations for this event.
The day doesn't end there though. After the costume contest wraps up at 4 p.m., everyone is invited over to MALEFYCIA — the only place hobnobbing with other zombies seems perfectly normal — to enjoy a couple of drinks.
While registration, which you can do here, for the zombie rally is completely free, any drinks at the after event will come out of your own wallet.
It's not mandatory to dress up. Those that just want to take in the gruesome and gory spectacle of it all are welcome to do so.
