• There is a benefit concert being held for Timothy Mew, one of Montreal's most well-known homeless street pianists, to help him raise funds to find a home for the winter.
  • The event is happening at 6 p.m. this Saturday, and it will be a night to celebrate Mew's passion and talent.
  • Listen to the video of one of his street performances below!

You may have seen him around the city playing on one of the public pianos. There were probably people passing by who actually took the time to stop and listen because he's just that good. Meet Timothy Mew, an exceptionally talented, self-taught pianist, who also happens to be homeless.

Mews has been entertaining Montrealers all summer. He has been written up in the press for his talent and is known affectionately around the city as "The Original Piano Man."

If you haven't yet been lucky enough to catch one of his free impromptu performances, you can hear him play live this Saturday, October 26!

There is a benefit being organized for him by a fan of the pianist, Souhil Simerabet. Tickets are being sold for $20 each, and all of the proceeds go directly to Mew. With the cold Montreal winter around the corner, Simerabet hopes that money will help Mew with decent housing and to get him back on his feet.

Not only is this a great cause, but the $20 entrance fee also gets you a free cup of coffee. Win-win.

Keep scrolling to catch a bit of Mew's amazing piano skills on YouTube with his rendition of "Great Balls of Fire."

Mew doesn't read music but has the uncanny ability to play by ear after hearing a song only one time. He took a few classes as a young child but was never able to keep it up.

If you can't make it to his concert, you can still help out by liking and sharing the video below.

Mew hasn't had it easy. He's suffered a series of unfortunate events in his life; a brain injury at a young age, addiction, prison, and homelessness. Playing the piano is the one small thing that brings him true joy. Watching the video above, you can see the passion Mew brings to his music.
