Christmas is coming a little early this year courtesy of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA). As part of this year's Miracle at the Museum promotion, the museum is offering free admission for everyone during the holidays. For a little over two weeks, you'll have free access to roam the galleries and not have to spend a penny.
The whole thing kicks off this Saturday, December 21 and runs through to January 5 (although the museum is closed on Christmas and New Year's Day).
Unfortunately, the free admission does not extend to the museum's major exhibition, The Egyptian Mummies (which is really worth a look); a ticket will run you $24.
The "Discovery Exhibits" that you'll have access to include the new Pavilion for Peace, which has over 750 works of international art from the Middle Ages to today. The exhibits also feature works by Quebec and Canadian artists:
Artist. Woman. Indigenous. A season at the Museum, devoted to female Indigenous artists
The Miracle at the Museum promotion also offers free family workshops every weekend, where you can relax, make a star garland, a fictional character, or create a personalized wrapping paper.
There will also be movie screenings for the little ones (or for you if you want a childhood flashback – no one is judging). Films are screened in French and English. Check out the cultural calendar for times and languages.
There are also lots of shows for the adults, but these Christmas events will cost you. The Bourgie Hall is hosting holiday concerts throughout December. The jazz classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas, sold out so quickly that an additional show was added just to fit the demand.
Tickets for the concerts start at $21, but there are great promotions if you plan on attending a few. You can check out the full line up here.
If you're looking for something at half that price (about $13), check out some of the Christmas classic movies put on by Cinéma du Musée like The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, and the Spanish musical comedy (with french subtitles) Doña Francisquita.
