In the city, the sight of melted and grey snow can be rather depressing. That said, you only have to go a little further away to better appreciate the beauty of these infinitely small snowflakes falling from the sky and staying white once they hit the ground. To do so, we discovered this National trail near Montreal and it is ideal for a romantic hike.
After a good snowfall, the Montagne Noire and the Liberator viewpoint seem to come out of a real fairy tale.
Once you make your way to the top of the highest peak of Saint-Donat, you'll find a tower in the middle of a clearing. This is known as the Mésangeai shelter.
From the top of this tower, you and your significant other (or whoever you choose to bring with you) can enjoy a breathtaking view, if you decide to make this memorable getaway.
So, whenever you feel as though winter is losing its charm, you can go for a full day of romance in front of a winter painting that will keep you going until spring.
The Intercentre Trail has been in existence for over 35 years and straddles the Lanaudière and Laurentian regions.
It is the Lanaudière trail that allows you to climb to the top of the Montagne Noire to discover the site of the Liberator Harry plane crash and of course, to climb the viewpoint.
Being on the top Mésangeai shelter, you'll find yourself at an 875 m altitude, which puts you on the highest summit in Saint-Donat. Cool, right?
The trail is open year-round and access is free. It is a rather difficult hike and the return trip takes about 6 hours for 13 km.
So although it's far from being a short walk, for the regulars and the brave, it's worth the effort.
