5 Things You Can Do In Montreal's Old Port For NYE 2017

During the Holidays, most of us have a lot more time to hang out and do fun activities. It's a time to stroll along the streets, do winter sports, and make the most of what winter has to offer (beyond staying in and watching Netflix!!).

The Montreal Old Port is always magical, but even more so during this time of the year.

December 31st is the perfect time to spend the entire day in an enchanting environment, as the Old Port has tons of activities to offer... many of which are free! And don't think that you have to organise everything, because I've done all the planning for you!

Here are just a few activities you can do when spending the last day of 2016 in Montreal's Old Port:

1. Old Port's Giant Skating Rink

Start off your day with one of the most fun winter sports of all time: ice skating! On New Year's Eve, the Natrel Skating Rink in Old Montreal is open until 10 p.m., but I suggest going early - the physical activity and fresh air will leave you feeling energized for the long day of celebrations ahead!

2. There Will Be A Huge Fireworks Show At Midnight

Not only is Montreal throwing a killer New Year's Party, but they are also lighting up your night with fireworks! You can skate on the ice rink while magical winter coloured fireworks sparkle in the sky right above your head! While you watch the fireworks that will begin at midnight, you can continue to enjoy the music and the winter wonderland atmosphere with the whole city of Montreal.

3. The Biggest FREE NYE Outdoor Concert In The City

You don't have plans for New Year's Eve yet and you don't want to blow all of your hard-earned money on club fees, bottle service and cabs? Why not go to a free outdoor concert instead?!

On December 31st, Merry Montreal is hosting a huge outdoor show bringing together some of Quebec's finest artists at the Quai Jacques-Cartier!

With performances by Scott Helman, SonReal, Alex Nevsky, Bernard Adamus, Klô Pelgag and Louis-Jean Cormier, you're sure to have a grand ol' time!

To top it all off, it's an amazing spot to take in the epic fireworks at midnight, literally ending the year with a bang!

4. Dozens Of  The City's Hidden Bars Are In Old Montreal

After the outdoors music party, you and all your friends can head out and drink up at some on Montreal's chillest bars! There are several bars located right in Old Montreal that will still be open after the party stops outside or if you want to warm up on some drinks inside. We suggest to buy your tickets in advance if you want to be guaranteed entrance. Some bars include Bevo, Philemon, Santos, Pub St. Paul and many more to fulfill the beginning of your 2017!

5. The Metro Is Open ALL NIGHT!!!

How many times during the year do we wish that the metro was open all night so that we could get back home safe without paying for a cab? Well, for New Year's Eve, your wishes are granted! The metro will be open all night so you can chill in the Old Port for as long as you want after the show, up until you're ready to call it a night! No stress, the metro will stay open!

For magical times in Montreal this December 31st, head to the Old Port and enjoy some of the funnest activities in the city! Merry Montreal is going on until January 1st.
